It’s Valentine’s Day!
Again.
Bill told me when we married he did not believe in Valentine’s Day.
Still, after so many years, I wake up hoping.
And on this day, once again, there is no card, no candy and no flowers.
Bill claims it is a “Hallmark Holiday”, and also a Catholic holiday (Saint Valentine you know).
And he is not Catholic.
Please – no pity – I find other diversions when my friends tell me about their tokens of love on this special day.
I am very good at convincing myself that when Bill builds a warm cozy fire in our wood stove, it is a testament to his love and commitment.
Or when he puts all the dishes away before I can get to them, it is better than flowers.
Or when he keeps asking how my BigFoot is doing and gently touches to see if it is still swollen, that is sweeter than candy.
And when he invites me out to dinner to a special place – even on this Catholic holiday – it is a finer tribute than a Hallmark card.
We are dining tonight with friends at Virginia’s Natural Bridge Hotel Dining Room where there is – guess what –
A Valentine’s Day Special!
I can’t wait to dress up tonight and wear my heart on my sleeve for my non-Catholic boy who doesn’t believe in Valentines Day. A diamond would be nice though. Hmmmm! I wonder if he thought of that.

Sounds like you did ok. We don’t go out for dinner this weekend because it’s usually crowded and noisy. We exchanged cards and other than that continue to do the little things for each other that mean a lot. Happy Valentine’s Day to you both.

Wow, the little things he does for you speak volumes about his true love for you. You are richly blessed. He gives you valentines all ear long. 🙂

We all express love in different ways. Doing the little things for someone is always the best. Bill rocks! Happy Valentine’s Day, Dor!

Well ! wishful thinking about those diamonds Dora .As John says it doesn’t hurt to dream does it. This year is the first year we have not sent each other Valentine’s cards .I think after 25 yrs together we know we love each other so we are spending the night by the fire. COSY Eh ! Its too cold to bother to go out anyway. Have a great Valentines night to everyone on your blog. x

Please wish Bill a Happy Valentines Day for me. I would send him a card but I wouldn’t want to enrich Hallmark. 😉

Well, maybe not quite a romantic Eliza, but a sweet caring partner through the ups and downs of life.

Odd, but it is cold here too – 6 degrees F this morning and 3 to 5 inches of snow expected tomorrow. It’s a good thing Bill and I still find things to talk about as we cozy up to the fire in the wood stove. I will be thinking of you and John by your fireside too. Happy Valentine’s Day!:)

The special “little” things he does really are the BIG things. Happy Valentine’s Day to you and Bill. (Tell Bill that while Valentine was a Catholic, this day did not end so well for him.) 😉
Enjoy your dinner. We had our special night out last night. ❤

The hotel looks beautiful. Apparently, a nice dinner is in order. Flowers fade, chocolate has to be burned off, so a card is fine with me–but I didn’t get one this year since hubby’s ailing with a cold.

Sounds like your Bill makes every day Valentine’s Day Dor – and he may not deliver gifts, rather he delivers love. Much better for sure!!!

I hope you had an absolutely wonderful time! Poor Mike had to work all weekend, so we couldn’t do anything, but that’s ok because I appreciate and love him every day not just on Valentine’s Day :).

Daily testaments of love and commitment far outweigh Hallmark’s holiday. Personally, I’d rather have a keeper every day than once a once a year thing. You have what really counts in a relationship. We acknowledge the day here, but we don’t go overboard.

There is definitely something to be said for the “keepers” in our world. Thanks Suzicate! 🙂

Love comes in many forms and sometimes it’s just hubby cleaning up the dinner dishes. My true love isn’t a mushy, Valentine’s kind of guy either so we forego the hearts, candy, flowers, etc. routine. And this year, we celebrated Valentine’s Day with a first birthday party for our sweet, adorable almost Valentine’s Day granddaughter. Can’t get a better gift than that!
