As always I feel a pent up excitement at the threat of a real snow storm.
We haven’t had one of those in a while. In fact, we are having a relatively innocent winter.
But here came a forecast from my favorite meteorologist who predicted a shovel-worthy snowfall!
I kept watching the windows, getting more and more anxious,
like a young girl waiting for her first date, in love for the first time – waiting.
And here came the snow just as predicted!
I was so delighted I went out to shovel walkways even though they are immediately filling up again.
There is at least a foot of snow, maybe more, and more coming to add to the overnight pileup.
I love the way the world is so transformed, with ordinary objects taking on new shapes and dimensions.
And yes, I may soon tire of the novelty and wish again for easier living. I know. I know.
It is foolish to love something that causes
so much disruption in so many lives, but
for now,
for this day,
for this moment in time,
I love snow!
I can’t help but get a little excited when snow is forecast for us – although even an inch throws our area into a tailspin – Your photos are beautiful: enjoy!

An innocent winter? Lucky you! This is our worst in 20 years. We have been breaking records and with this storm we have a very deep base! Enjoy it while it’s here. As for me, I can’t wait for the 50 degrees predicted for next week.

I’m so glad that you like my gift and you can keep it forever my dear friend LOL!! Seriously though, your photos are great – it sure does look beautiful when it’s fresh doesn’t it? My parents aren’t very happy about this storm though because they were supposed to be starting their drive to South Carolina today. They don’t know when tbey are going to be able to leave now. Friends of theirs left yesterday and are now stuck somewhere in Virginia!

Beautiful photos, Dor! I’m really surprised to hear you haven’t had a real snow storm this winter. My old stomping grounds of Northern Virginia has been hit hard. We had about 9 inches here in Charlotte between yesterday and today.

Yes ! The first snow fall is nice when its clean and pure white, but oh boy the mess when it begins to thaw. Enjoy it now before that happens.

I used to love the snow–This post makes me realize that when there is a major storm that I should just slow down and appreciate the snow instead of trying to maintain my normal schedule.

Bad stuff there weatherwise Eunice… I can only imagine how tough it is. Our big snow began melting yesterday with 50F degrees and sun… thank goodness! And no ice. How lucky we were with this one.

What’s nice about a big snow is how you don’t have to make excuses for being quiet and introspective, and especially nice with hot chocolate and a good book. 🙂

OMG I know Earthquakes felt in the south, heavy snows where they never fall now our poor Cape Cod with it’s tiny little streets and gorgeous views will sadly look just like mine 😦 I am glad you were safe and had fun with it while it was there 🙂 I would love it took if it stayed a week then melt then come again 🙂 life is not that way 🙂

We had sunshine and warm temps yesterday and today and so the meltdown begins without too much mess. That’s the way I like big snows – “Here today and gone tomorrow.” 🙂

Yes, I do think points south of us have been hit harder with snow this winter. We have had very very cold temps though – just not the shovelworthy pileups. But winter’s not over…… 🙂

Hopefully your parents and their friends have made it to their So. Carolina destinations now. We had warm temps and sunshine here yesterday and today so the big melt has started. Things are looking up. 🙂

Oh Kate, I can only imagine how hard it must be with such a bad winter of snow. I write about how beautiful it is, but only because it has been a novelty here this year. I know I would get mighty sick of it if it were to linger. 🙂

No melting here yet. It’s just too cold! Mom and Dad are on their way and will hopefully reach their destination today as long as Mother Nature cooperates :).

I’m surprised because you aren’t that far away from me. You much have been lucky to dodge the snows. I remember your story of power outages that lasted like forever! Glad your winter is mild.

This is the way to have a snow storm. We are so lucky it got warm and everything is rapidly melting. Now I am sorry for those who have had snow upon snow upon snow.

I read about the earthquakes too – South Carolina had a 4.1 quake that was felt some in Georgia. So far we have not had that, but did have a little one some years ago. It can happen anywhere.

What about following them with a stop here? Supposed to warm up next week! 🙂

When we first moved here the realtor said this was Brigadoon and it only rained at night and hardly ever snowed because we are protected by two mountain ranges. Ha! You’re right Kate. We have had our share of snowy winters but seem to be dodging the bullet this year. Dumb luck. But I’m wishing for a sunny spring that arrives sooner rather than later for all of us.

Sure can we get them a lot up here in the 4’s and 5’s mostly last time it felt like the earth would fill my basement 😦 I am the type to worry gas lines will rupture or snakes will come out to play 🙂

The photos are great! I love snow too and this winter has been spectacular (in my opinion). Just this past weekend, we had more snow and more to come tonight. I’m loving it.
