My body has a clock of its own with an alarm that winds up screaming, “Quit trying so hard and relax. Give it up kid! Rest! Take a day off now and then.”
So, today is a Shut-Down Day – Quiet Time – Time for R&R. In the old days I called it “Sloth Time” – a day for reading in bed munching crackers – a time to feel decadent and depraved for ignoring life’s responsibilities.
I shouldn’t even be writing this because I’m on Sloth Time today, but fellow bloggers have said to just start writing and new ideas will come. O.k., I’m waiting.
Sloth Time is embarrassing though, so I’m wearing my pedometer just in case there is an urge for healthy movement. Well, at least I’m not in bed with cracker crumbs! But it’s 11AM and the pedometer dial shows a total of 56 steps. Whoop!
No idea what to cook for dinner this evening.
Laundry is waiting.
Dog needs attention and exercise.
Husband could use help in the garden.
Ironing is piling up.
Things calling to be organized, cleaned, prepared.
And here I sit – shut down.
Hurrah! It’s Sloth Time!
Sorry, no words coming for this blog.
Maybe if I hang in there, the words will emerge.
The definition of a sloth: Extreme laziness. Aversion to work or movement. One of the seven deadly sins. A tree-dwelling animal named for his extremely slow movements.
You deserve it!

Sloth time – I love it!! I try and have days like that, but if I’m at home I always see stuff that needs to be done and then I feel guilty :(. I do find it easier in the summer though because I refuse to miss the nice weather and will sit outside reading whenever I get the chance!! 🙂

The trick is not to look at the stuff that needs doing. Concentrate on cracker crumbs and the book at hand. 🙂 I’ve got it down to a science.

From one sloth to another — it’s perfectly acceptable to take some down time to rest and relax and yes, do nothing!! Does it help to know I’m joining you? 😉

When we lived in Montreal there was a guy on morning radio and every Wednesday he invited those of us stay at home mums to Goof Off Day. I still remember it and use the expression but I like Sloth time. May I use this too?
You may remember that I spent a whole Saturday reading recently – Goof off or Sloth time it was great!

I did squeeze in a nap or two, but writing is my “fun stuff” – can’t stay away from it! 🙂

I am wondering how to apply for permission for my local branch of the Scottish Womens’ Rural Institute(SWRI) to read Sloth Time at a Competition on August 26th in the Edinburgh area. This involves a 15 minute presentation on the theme of The Seven Deadly Sins. This is not a ticket event. The final will be in early November if we get through.
With best wishes,
