I am among the ranks of the world’s most paranoid planners who keep calendars and more calendars.
There is a calendar in my purse (super private),
a calendar on the kitchen wall (semi-private),
another for “quick viewing” on the refrigerator (reference only),
a calendar on my cell phone (for an emergency),
and a desk calendar bedside (seriously private).
There are actual “plans” and appointments written on the desk calendar, the purse calendar, and the one on the kitchen wall.
And if there are changes, I have to erase/mark out/change all three of the above.
Lately I have changed ALL THREE of the write-in “planning” calendars over and over.
- A friend planned to visit us for 10 days in August but cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.
- Postponed a lunch date with a group of ladies since the main attraction cancelled due to stomach flu.
- Eye doctor’s office called to cancel an appointment.
- My niece is coming for a weekend with her dog, Noche. Hurrah! So far, so good.
- Cousins booked to visit on another weekend. No threats so far.
- Son coming some time soon and then again some time later, yet to be defined. Sooner or later means possible restructuring the calendars!
- The bathroom floor was to be replaced last weekend, but date now re-arranged. Will my niece be here then? There are no guarantees anymore.
- What about the dental check up scheduled for tomorrow and a haircut the next day? “Up for grabs.”
- Erasers are being worn down changing appointments!
Planning is supposed to save time right? Reworking three calendars is beginning to be time consuming, must be done in pencil due to all the radical changes, and aggravation prompting a nervous tic.
Therefore, I have devised an entirely new and competely radical change in plans.
I now plan to cease planning things and only keep one calendar – for planning purposes!
The question is, “Which one?”
How many calendars do YOU have?
Good Idea ! I have one calendar in the kitchen near the phone where I can record appointments etc., immediately I receive a call, that’s so that I don’t forget once I put the phone down, same in my study, and one in my handbag. However my problem is SHOPPING LISTS which I inevitably right out and then rush off without it and have to guess what I wanted .

I have a calendar on the wall just for reference, but you know me and my electronics :). I have one calendar that syncs from my iPhone to my iPad to my Apple watch to my laptop. So, if I have to make a change, I change it on one device and it updates it everywhere else. Easy peasy :).

2 – Wall calendar at home for major items (mostly for Hubbs sake) and the other is electronic – my work email calendar and cell calendar synch up. I live and breathe by the electronic one though so if that goes down we’re pooched. Good luck!! MJ

Oh my, we must be related, Dor. I have four working calendars, plus three that I haven’t used. Can you tell that I love shopping for new calendar? 🙂

Never mind shopping lists! I have taken to putting them on neon colored 3 x 5 cards but still forget to take the card. Sigh. 🙂

You are technologically advanced! Me, I am prehistoric…. and I freely admit this inconvenient shortcoming. Maybe when you come to visit you can help. 🙂

I only have two calendars to keep in sync and even then I miss things! Ahhhh, but then there are the “lists” – too many to count as they come and go … scattered on sheet of paper in various places. 😉

Down to two? That is a miracle and I am duly impressed. Ditto on losing the lists though.

Oh my! I can guarantee you I would forget to change one of them and then not remember which was the right information. I use Outlook on the computer. I can schedule for myself and send my husband an appointment so he has it too. Haven’t done paper in soooo long! Of course if my computer goes out, I’m up the creek!

I’m still smiling at this post, glad that I’m in such good company. I have calendars and planners on my wall, in my purse, and beeping on my computer. When when it comes to the reminders I count on most, it’s the yellow stick’em notes I keep on my bathroom mirror! 😉

Maybe computer calendars are the way to go….at least if they go out, it would feel like a vacation. 🙂

Eliza – There is a limit to my electronic intelligence level. One calendar? Electronic? No pencil? Blahahaha! LOL!

I have a calendar in the kitchen and one in my head. Sadly, they don’t get together as much as they should. i bet you just got goosebumps at my haphazard setup.

Kudos for the calendar in your head. Mine is way too muddled to ever attempt such a thing. 🙂

I have a kitchen wall calendar where the only writing allowed is whether it is recycling week or not. I have a small, weekly planner that keeps track of things at a quick glance, but my main calendar is on my iPhone, iPad and Mac. Making a change on one updates all three of those. One day I may trust myself to give up the planner…
