My local YMCA is bringing in all new resistance equipment! They took the old stuff out yesterday and the new gear arrived today. We old-time members will even have to be retrained on how to re-sculpt our bodies.
Bill and I were so excited we made a special trip to town today (on a non-workout day!) just to see all the new machines. We had lunch at KindRoots Café, a charming little diner on the YMCA premises. They have yummy local, fresh, good-for-you foods.
And as we enjoyed a no-guilt healthy lunch we watched the Y’s transformation.
A fleet of grimacing strong-men were maneuvering the heavy, enormous looking equipment, trying to get it through the front doors.
“Be still my heart!” I warned.
But, my heart was not beating for the he-man brigade. (Ha! Gotcha there!) It was beating for the imagined image of the new body I will be sculpting once I learn the intricacies of these state of the art machines!
It does not take much to impress us here in rural areas of the Commonwealth of Virginia you know.
We live in the country or “out in the county” as the locals call it. So the comings and goings of the seasons are usually enough excitement. And as you may know, I tend to blog about the seasons ad nauseam.
But when it comes to fancy new gym equipment to replace the oft repaired machines we have been using for years and years, well now, that’s the equivalent of taking a first roller coaster ride on the biggest, wildest one ever.
This “Y” purchase is top o’ the line equipment minus nicks, dents, scratches, groans or squeaks. It is already making us feel richly rewarded for sticking with the antique resistance gadgets of the past.
Yep – out with my old body and in with the new! I wonder if I can even get up on that torture chamber thing.
If you come for a visit, I will be sure to take you to my YMCA for a tour.
Isn’t that something to look forward to?
Try to contain your excitement!
Perfect title for this post! I really need to think about joining the Y….

Dor, I love your positive attitude!!! I hope you love the new machines. The Y gym was my regular haunt for years, but I liked the “old” machines and the free weights the best. We had an “old” room, and the “new” room. My buddies clung to the old room, I’m afraid. But sculpting is great, and new toys make it so much more fun! Will you be posting pics of you enjoying the new equipment? bet wishes, WG

Now, be honest. Bill isn’t listening. You were really checking out the hot muscle men weren’t you???????

The Incredible Hulkette? Is that the standard for which you seek? (Without all the nauseating green make-up, of course.) 😉 Looking forward to some pics. 👍

Haha! No Hulkette vision for me – just an incredible slimness! 🙂

Ha! There will only be photos of me on the “new” equipment if I am slim by the time it is old equipment. 🙂 I need to become more dedicated – like you.

Ah, that dedication passed away with a re-marriage, foot injury, and back troubles. Now I feel virtuous to take an afternoon walk. How I miss those “gym-rat” days, and the physical condition I was in such a short time ago! Good luck with the workouts. I admire that you are in there “doing it.”

Well, I make short sporadic stabs at physical fitness WG… it’s Bill who is the dedicated one. I follow him to the “Y” out of guilt, where I treadmill at a leisurely pace and do a few resistance things – enough to make me feel noble, but not enough to be labeled a “gym-rat.” Your afternoon walks are probably more strenuous. 🙂 Thanks for thinking of me in that way though. ~Dor 🙂

😉 the beauty of the internet, Dor. We can be who we present ourselves to be. No one but our partners see those extra 5 lbs 😉 I fell in love with the elliptical and eventually bought one to have at home. There is a “gym” in the basement with bench and free weights collecting dust…. WG

It’s a bit more than 5 lbs but my spouse doesn’t seem to notice anyway. He loves his elliptical too. I set our treadmill on “stroll.” 🙂

I’m a little sorry (and a tad ashamed) to say we have a brand new Y and I’ve only been in the building once (and I didn’t work out either!). I think I’m allergic to exercise. 😉

You’re an inspiration. Does that mean you’ll be doing some strenuous shopping for some new workout duds that will reveal your sculpted frame?

Ha! Well, yes, I will get new workout duds when the frame is actually sculpted. Ha!Again. 🙂

If Bill didn’t shame me into going I would avoid anything that involved movement. I knew we were friends for a good reason. 🙂

Well Dora, this post leaves me feeling rather ashamed because I haven’t been walking since we lost Ben our dog. I guess I feel I will miss him walking beside me too much. However you have certainly inspired me to get going again because I have to get rid of some extra weight now. Just goes to show that if you neglect yourself it shows because I cannot get into some of my clothes now. That’s done it I’m walking tomorrow.

Good for you, Dor. I’ve never had a gym membership, but admire folks who are dedicated to overcoming the inertia to get off the couch! Walking out in nature and gardening are my exercise and I love my yoga class, which has made a world of difference for easing my (gardening) back muscles.

I have a feeling you get more exercise in the garden and with yoga than I do. 🙂

Nice equipment to work out on is a bonus! Enjoy! They should be more than happy to offer orientation on the new machines.
