Lately I am having recurring dreams that end in aggravating, unanswered, specific questions.
And I wake up perplexed and immediately begin searching for the answers.
Dream #1 – What is your credit card number?
I was shopping with a friend. She convinced me to buy a pretty little lamp for the fireplace hearth (not a likely place for a lamp but what the heck, it was a dream!).
The lamp was on sale for $52.97 (I am nothing if not precise in unconscious slumber). After much hesitation, I decided to go for it but could not find my credit card. “We will accept the number,” said the clerk but I did not remember the number. Walking around the store I kept trying hard to recall but finally ended up not buying the lamp.
How embarrassing!
Upon awakening I rushed to get the card out to memorize the number.
Where is that lamp now anyway?
Dream #2 – The Golden Girls
In the next dream I could not remember the names of the characters in the old Golden Girls television show. I remembered “Dorothy” of course, but that was it. Who can forget their own name anyway? But, I have watched the reruns of that show for years. How could I forget the Girls’ simple stage names? Immediately upon awakening I went to the computer and was relieved to find Blanche, Rose and Sophia. How weird is that?
And how important?
Dream #3 – Here Kitty, Kitty!
I dreamed a beautiful cat came to our door in a rainstorm. Maybe there is a commercial like that and it triggered the dream. Anyway, I loved this kitty and really wanted to keep her. But she had to have a name! I went through thousands of names in my dream and awakened without one. There was no kitty at my door either and even if there was, it would still be nameless because I keep going through the mental list even wide awake.
Huh?
And Dream #4 – Who Killed Jack Ruby?
I dreamed I was there when President Kennedy was killed and when Lee Harvey Oswald, his assassin, was shot by Jack Ruby. But I could not remember what happened to Jack Ruby. I knew he died, but how? I still have to look that up.
Now I know many of my friends will wonder about a sanity issue here.
Each morning I wake up with a different haunting question that drives me, not mad, but in a mad rush to find the answer. You see, I wake up not knowing the answer even in real life!
This type of dreaming has never happened to me before.
I can’t wait for the next unconscious memory lapse – probably in tonight’s dream TBA.
And thank goodness for Google, who saves most of the answers!
Is this a sleep affliction I have not yet heard about or is Bill putting something in my soup?
Interesting. I’ll take a shot. You’re not focused and thinking about the things that you need to be focused on in reality? Just a stab.

Who needs Netflix with dreams like these?

Dor, this is great, gave me a chuckle. At least you remember your dreams. I might retain scraps, but not the fluent details. Maybe your brain is bored and wants you exercise it?
They have reams of info online about dream interpretation and even dream dictionaries where you can look up subjects like ‘cats’. Ultimately, I believe we are the only ones who can interpret our dreams. For instance, some folks love cats and others don’t, so a cat would mean different things to each. It’s entertaining to think about. Thanks for the enjoyable post. 🙂

Hmmm, this is surely a different aspect of dreaming. I can see why it’s driving you crazy, it’s bad enough to have memory lapses while awake (which I do ALL the time) but while you’re sleeping too?? Gosh, Dor, I think I’ll stick to my recurring dream that I can’t find my high school locker. 😉 (Seriously, I dream that a lot!)

Dear me! One never knows what a dream is trying to convey. Perhaps it’s a fear of forgetting in ordinary reality that’s infiltering the dream? Because this forgetting business is certainly happening a LOT more as we age, isn’t it?

A message through dreams to start doing crossword puzzles to sharpen brain power perhaps. 🙂

Yes Cindy, this dreaming of forgetting things is weird. I think I forget more asleep than awake. 🙂 A lost locker would be welcome relief.

And thanks for the enjoyable reply Eliza. This odd set of dreams is strangely funny and I love your idea that my brain may be bored and needs exercise (along with my body)! I’m heading for the gym tomorrow! 🙂

Now if I could only remember what to focus on….. Thanks for the “stab” Holly and for visiting my blog. 🙂

Dreams are just messed up. Sometimes I wake up, remember my dreams, and really question my sanity :). At least you’re only forgetting things while you’re asleep. I forget things when I’m awake!! LOL

Dor, are you perhaps taking a new medication? I was amazed to discover how vivid my dreams were when I was temporarily on a new medicine years ago. My husband had it happen to him when he was wearing a nicotine patch. Had to take the thing off, it gave him such intense dreams.

Nope, no new meds. No new foods either so it can’t be an allergy. Someone else said I may be out of focus! An astute observation. Actually I am kind of enjoying these question laden dreams. If there’s a good one tonight, I’ll do another post (at the risk of losing half the readership). 🙂

Hahaha! I do love you Cindy! But I’m afraid that forgetting things when asleep may be a prelude to forgetting more important things during daylight hours! 🙂 Will let you know if this malady persists. 🙂

Ditto Sheryl! I have no clue what the dreams mean. Fortunately last night was notably normal. 🙂

As long as they aren’t BAD dreams (other than not getting that lamp, that is!). Interesting, though; I’ve never had dreams like that either!

No, not bad dreams – just puzzling Last few nights have been dream free so there are no unanswered questions. I’ve decided that if I am getting Alzheimer’s, it would only be at night. 🙂

I know that feeling, Dor. The details in the dream are crystal clear, but reality is a little fuzzy. I have trouble remembering people’s names. When I sit and think about it, their name does come to me. But by then they’re jetting off to some exotic location … or just to a coffee shop … while I muddle thru. 😉

Aren’t you just glad that dreams don’t come true. A couple of nights ago I had bees all over my head, tangled in my hair and hubby could not get them out. Woke with a headache!

Whoa! Your bees in the belfry dream is really scary, and yes, in such cases I am glad that dreams don’t come true.

There is some trick to remembering names (by association I think), but I haven’t learned it yet either. 🙂

Oh nnooo! These are repressed memories. You were Jack Ruby’s (moll) girlfriend and the memories were just too painful so you repressed them. I have a duty to notify you of this since I am a retired (psycho) therapist. Plus I am in Switzerland now so you can’t sue me.
I am getting brazen in my errrrrr…….goldenish years. Consider what I did in Russia~
