When I was in college, my Hort professor told us a weed is nothing more than what you consider an undesirable plant. I love the philosophy. While others like a lawn that is “weed” free, I love the henbit, dandelion, and other flowers growing. Pretty.
I was noticing how pretty and bright they were in our neighbor’s former garden bed. She didn’t see the beauty in them, I gather. The bees need them, so I don’t mind them too much.
What a beautiful shot! I was thinking dahlia when I first opened it up. Weeds are flowers that are growing in the wrong spot. That’s what my Mom always said.
In early spring I love them since they announce new beginnings. I try to be tolerant after that but the more they multiply and invasive they become, the less I see of beauty.
Kate – I love the quote from your Mom. I too was surprised at that beautiful flower that I knew was only a common weed and yes, it is a
“flower growing in the wrong spot”.
Ditto Sheryl – Ditto. We have so many that removing them seems a daunting task. But now that I have seen this one up close, I may even admire them, at least for a little while before they completely take over.

Thanks Kalamity and for stopping by my blog. And I agree. A flower is a flower is a flower…..

Oh, those perky dandelions always make me smile even if they are weeds.

I often wonder why I pull weeds so religiously? They are beautiful too. It’s silly isn’t it?

I love the curly stamens! Dandelions are like little suns that dot my lawn – so cheerful!

I guess I just took them for granted and had no idea how perfect they are in a closeup.

This is so true Jill. I was amazed at all that perfect arrangement inside one little flowered weed.

“Grandma, it’s my lucky day,” my grandson told me this weekend. “I blew four dandelions and found this dime on the ground.”

Thank your for reminding me that an individual dandelion is a beautiful flower. Unfortunately, I have way too many of them in my yard. 🙂
