Do you know the meaning of your name, and why your parents chose it? Do you think it suits you? What about your children’s names?
As the story goes, my parents liked the name, Stephanie.
And they also liked the name, Ann.
So I was to be named Stephanie Ann.
But they noticed that together with our last name, the initials spelled, S.A.D., and being superstitious, they imagined the name would bring bad luck and would render me “sad” for the rest of my life.
At the time, there was a popular movie star named Dorothy, so they chose Dorothy Ann instead of Stephanie Ann and my initials were then D.A.D. Better.
Now that I am a married woman, the initials spell D.A.R. They give me some credibility as a possible Daughter of the American Revolution even though it’s not true.
And when my parents looked up Dorothy they found it has Greek origins and means “Gift of God.”
Now THAT is a bit difficult to live up to, don’t you think?
I think I may be a disappointment in His grand scheme of things.
My son’s name means “Valiant Protector” and sounds presidential.
He has a lot to live up to too.
