one-lovely-blog-awardCongratulations to Dorothy at Musings of a Horse Mom for receiving the One Lovely Blog Award.  Dorothy is a great horse lover and a riding diva with her own very special steed named Bear.  She also writes beautifully and posts lovely photos of Bear in action.  And thanks very much Dorothy for nominating Virginia Views for this same award. It is truly a lovely thing to be recognized by fellow bloggers we admire.  I am beyond grateful.

The rules for receiving this award are to post seven things you may not know about me, and to nominate seven other Lovely Blogs (to pay it forward).

Here are seven things you may not know about me:

1)     I once had two horses (Martini and Lucy).  They died of old age.  Lucy was 32!

2)     I live in an equestrian neighborhood.

3)      I love horses, dogs, cats, and almost any living thing.

4)     Autumn used to be my favorite time of year but now it is Spring.

5)     I am trying to walk 10,000 steps a day and have managed to reach that goal once a month. I need a horse.

6)     My favorite dessert is Crème Brulee, but then there’s ice cream, and chocolate, and…..

7)     People think I’m a great cook but I am really the great imposter.  My recipes usually have less than 5 ingredients and take less than 20 minutes to prepare.

Of course, every blog I follow is lovely (to me) and would that I could I would list them all.  But here are seven lovely blogs I nominate for the One Lovely Blog Award. Believe me, they are worth checking out.

Blog of the Year Award 4 star jpegCongratulations to Eunice of Living and Lovin for receiving her 6th and final star to add to her Blog of the Year 2012 award.   Everyone knows she’s already a real star in cyberspace, but to receive six stars for her blog  is a tremendous honor.  If you haven’t checked out Eunice’s blog, don’t miss it.  She is versatile and every place at once, and talented, and kind and fun and funny and a serious photographer, artist, crafter, and acute observer of life.    You name it – Eunice is good at it and her blog is no exception!  And I LOVE her dog, JT!

Meanwhile, thank you Eunice for awarding a fourth star to my own Blog of the Year 2012!  I may not reach that pinnacle place with the coveted six stars, but one was a tremendous thrill.  Receiving four leaves me  mute!  Well….. almost.

Being lazy and overwhelmed with holiday preparations, I am taking a  shortcut and nominating favorite bloggers from my blogroll.  Congratulations!  You are the erstwhile winners of the Blog of the Year Award 2012!  Think of me as Santa’s Helper, dropping gifts from the sky!  Look up!  You may actually see the shooting stars heading in your direction!

Have you claimed your award yet?

Are you adding stars as I nominate you?

If you have not claimed your award, please take a look at my blogroll and see if you are there.   Are you there?  If so, YOU ARE A WINNER! And note:  I have recently added a bunch of new blogger friends to my blogroll favorite list.  If you weren’t there before, you may be there now.

Also note:  If you still don’t see yourself on the list, but we are commenting and communicating with each other, then count yourself “IN” on this prestigious award too!

About The Blog of the Year 2012 Award:

Unlike other awards which you can only add to your blog once, this one is different!  When you begin, you will receive the one star award.  Then every time you are given the award by another blog, you can add another star!  And as if you did not know by now,  there are a total of six stars to collect.

You can check out your favorite blogs and even if they have already been given the award by someone else, you can still award them again and again to help them reach the maximum of six stars!

Blog of the Year Award 3 star jpeg

Congratulations to Eunice of Living and Lovin’ for her recent awards, and to my new blogging friend, Lori Lipsky, of Poetry Patio, who writes the most poignant verse! She has received numerous awards over the past few months too.  Both delightful bloggers have added immeasurably to my enjoyment and they inspire me to try and try again.  And it came as truly a big surprise when they both nominated me for the Blog of the Year 2012 Award. I thought the first time was “it”.  But suddenly I can add two more stars to my original badge, making” it” truly a badge of honor.  Thank you both!

And to reiterate:

The ‘rules’ for this award are simple:

1 Select the blog(s) you think deserve the ‘Blog of the Year 2012′ Award.

2 Write a  post and tell us about the blog(s) you have chosen — there’s no minimum or maximum number of blogs required — and ‘present’ them with their award.

3 Please include a link back to this page http://thethoughtpalette.co.uk/our-awards/blog-of-the-year-2012-award/ –  and include these ‘rules’ in your post (please don’t alter the rules or the badges!).

4 Let the blog(s) you have chosen know that you have given them this award and share the ‘rules’ with them.

5 You can now also join our Facebook group — click ‘like’ on this page: ‘Blog of the Year 2012′ Award Facebook group, and then you can share your blog with an even wider audience.

6 As a winner of the award, please add a link back to the blog that presented you with the award, and then proudly display the award on your blog sidebar, and start collecting stars!

Yes — that’s right — there are stars to collect! Unlike other awards which you can only add to your blog once, this award is different! When you begin, you will receive the ’1 star’ award, and every time you are given the award by another blog you can add another star! There are a total of 6 stars to collect.

And the Nominees are….

As before, if you are on my blog roll (you know who you are), I am nominating you for this award.  If you didn’t pick it up the first time, you may wish to now.  And if you did pick it up the first time, you can add another star to your badge too!  How cool is that?  And if you are not on my blogroll yet (either because I’ve been too lazy or you are a new friend), if we are commenting to each other on our blogs, consider yourself nominated for this award as well!  After all, you are definitely my favorites and if so, you are the most talented, brilliant, and wisest bloggers in cyberspace!

Have fun, enjoy, Congratulations, and by the way, HAPPY HOLIDAYS!  Luv, Dor

Congratulations to CathyG of Comments from Cathy for receiving yet another award.  The Mrs. Sparkly Ten Commandments Award is supposedly based on a real woman who was (or is) known for her elegance.  She was/is also renowned for her personal integrity, good manners and behavior, for having high expectations of people, and a great sense of humor.  All of these things certainly shine in Cathy’s blog, so be sure to take a look.

Now Cathy has gone and passed the award on to another group of bloggers, including me, and in so doing, zeroed in on one of my best kept secrets – I LOVE things that sparkle!  So this award is happily received – not because I am elegant and possess all those wondrous qualities (though I’m sure I do) – but because “sparkly” is in the title and that makes me feel good.

The rules of this award:

Answer 10 questions.

Nominate some bloggers you think deserve this award.

Notify your nominees.

Sounds easy huh?  But, answering the 10 questionscommandments is more difficult than you might think.

1)      Describe yourself in seven words.

Sparkly – Ha!

2)      What keeps you up at night?

My dog, Rozie, who has nightmares or hears things and pants in my ear to wake me up at 2:00 AM.  When I finally calm her down, she goes back to sleep, but I’m awake the rest of the night!

3)      Whom do you aspire to be (like)?

A combination of people with various admirable traits, talents, abilities, drive, self control, beauty, and loving characteristics.

4)      What scares you?

People who cough in my face.

5)      What are the best and worst things about blogging?

Best:  Of course, the other-worldly bloggers I meet and admire who provide new perspectives.  And I love having this platform for my need to write and show and tell. Thanks to my son if you are reading this, for telling me to stop saying, “I can’t.”

Worst:  My growing obsession with blogging where every spare minute is spent, and when not blogging, thinking about blogging and thinking about it and thinking about it, etc. etc. etc. and etc.

6)      What was the last website you looked at?

Photos from the Loony Bin.  Cindy is not only an excellent photographer and writer, but she makes me laugh out loud (LOL).

7)      If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be?

I would magically appear as a size 6 and look fabulous in a teeny weeny red bikini.  I know this is not an altruistic or admirable wish at my venerable age, but sometimes “truth is stranger than fiction.”

8)      Slankets yes or no?

I had to look this one up.  Didn’t realize it is a blanket with sleeves for easier reading.  Great idea but obviously my answer is “no.”  I never had one.

9)      What are you wearing now?

Jeans and a summer blouse, a solar watch (never needs a battery!), and a little sparkly gemstone necklace (See, I love Sparkles!).  Not wearing: shoes.

10)   Tell us something about the person who nominated you.

I have been following Cathy G for some time now because I love her stories and pictures of her family.  She is so fortunate to have a wealth of information and photographs that go way way back to her ancestors and she writes about them so beautifully.  I hope she is planning to convert her blog into a book.  It will be a wonderful gift for those she loves.

Phew!  Now that is done and if I haven’t embarrassed myself too badly, here’s the good part – nominating other oh-so-talented bloggers for this very unique award.  And yes, you all sparkle and shine!

They say actors and performers find their inspiration from cheering audiences.  Recognition from fellow bloggers is the same.  We may enjoy  blogging, but awards are the love and inspiration we need to stretch and grow.

So, Congratulations to Judysp and her wonderful blog, A Daily Thought.  She can take bows now because, for the second time, she has received two awards at once – the Beautiful Blogger and the Versatile Blogger Awards.  It’s like having twins TWICE!

If you have not visited A Daily Thought, don’t miss it!  Versatile and Beautiful are the perfect words because no matter what your interest, there is something there – from jokes to videos, to book reviews, and humor.   Her sense of humor is enormous!

Meanwhile, thanks Judy for passing these two awards on to me as well.

Here are the rules:

  1. Copy the logos and place them in your post.
  2. Thank the person who nominated you and link back to their blog.
  3. Tell seven things about yourself.
  4. Nominate seven other bloggers and comment on their blogs to let them know.

I have lately been expanding my wonderful little blogger-friend-community and have found some fascinating friends to add to those I already know and love.  I have included a few of them here.  These are my nominations for the Beautiful Blogger and the Versatile Blogger awards.  If you haven’t checked them out yet,I think each one is definitely applause worthy:

As for seven things about myself:

1)       I hate cereal in any of its many forms.

2)      Dusk is my favorite time of day.

3)      Autumn is my favorite time of year.

4)      I never saw snow until I was 21 years old.

5)      Bread is my downfall on a diet.

6)      I cannot carry a tune, so ask me to sing at your own risk.

7)      I keep trying to downsize but keep adding things anyway.

Congratulations to CathyG of Comments from Cathy on receiving the One Lovely Blog award AND the Versatile Blogger award – a “double hitter!”  Now that is real proof!  Cathy’s blog is definitely impressive and she is a fine friend to find in the blog-us-fear!

Awards are the gold stars for us bloggers.  They matter because they are further confirmation that our friends are looking.  And we must have something that touches our invisible family of followers – a special way of capturing life in photographs, of expressing thoughts and emotions in words.  So Thank You Cathy for including me in your list to receive both of these wonderful awards.  They matter.

Sometimes we receive the same awards more than once.  This is the double hitter that is twice as gratifying because it’s like saving the last delicious bite for later.  It’s the second time around for me and ever more special.

So, if you are on my list below of admired bloggers and you have already received the two awards, rejoice!  You are well loved.  You can follow the rules again or just wallow in all the admiration.  And if you are on the list and have not received one or both of these awards, rejoice!  You can still wallow because you are a Double Hitter!

Your rules are:

Thank the blogger who nominated you,

Provide a link to his/her site,

Share seven things about yourself (no, not 14!),

Nominate seven (no, not 14!) other bloggers for the award(s) and notify them of the nomination(s),

And – you can post an award badge or both badges to your own site (optional).

So. “open the envelope please.”

Here are my nominations for both the ONE LOVELY BLOG award and/or THE VERSATILE BLOGGER award:

Believe Anyway

Finally, although I have offered up seven things about myself before, I can’t resist doing it once more.

1)      I dream in color!

2)      I have always wanted a fireplace, but settled for a wood stove instead (more practical).

3)      There is no place like home.

4)      I once traveled in my work at a time when getting there was half the fun.

5)      Now writing takes me to other worlds.

6)      I love my friends in cyberspace and want to sign my comments, “Luv, Dor,” like in a real letter, but isn’t that too personal for someone I have never met in person?

7)      I don’t “text,” but I’m thinking about it.  By the time I am cutting edge, we may be sending messages by brain waves.

Luv, Dor

Shop Lifting for Fame

What a wonderful thing it is for a blogger to receive awards from fellow bloggers.  I feel especially euphoric today because I received The Reader Appreciation Award from the Newfoundland Traveller.  And of course I wish to thank Pauline for including me in her list.  It is a terrific honor because she is so infinitely professional in every way. Her posts are not only entertaining, but educational and insightful, and they offer glimpses of a similar but different culture in  a parallel universe.

The award was actually given for my old blog, Technicolor Day Dreams (a natural mistake since I recently ended that one and Pauline did not know).  If you are visiting me at Virginia Views, then you know this is my new blog about country life.  So, Pauline, forgive me if I am greedily accepting your award.  This could be called Awardlifting (tantamount to award shoplifting).  But, is it really “lifting” if I am stealing my own award from my own blog for another of my own blogs?

Ahem.  O.K. – I confess!  I am accepting The Reader Appreciation Award anyway.  Is there a blogging police patrol? What is the punishment for such a crime?  Can I go forward with this cowardly, reprehensible act?  Is it worth the risk?

Yes – I will take the risk!

My responsibilities as a Reader Appreciation Award winner (I have no shame) are to link back to the person who gave it, and then to nominate six worthy bloggers to receive the same award.  I hate this part and I love this part of the Awards process.

  • I love it because I truly appreciate all the fabulous blogs I follow. They are consistently beautiful, fascinating, edifying, funny, and ever inspirational.  Really.  Even criminals recognize excellence in blogging.
  • And I hate this part because I know I will regret leaving out any of my favorites (who may not want to be associated with an award thief anyway).  Each deserves applause even if they are lucky enough NOT to be included here.

Forging ahead no matter the consequences, the six worthy  blogs are below.  Do check them out for reading pleasure!   They are my new (perhaps illegal) nominees for The Reader Appreciation Award:

An Observant Mind – Because Karyn is a fabulous writer who has perfected the art of self deprecation and her blog posts are full of humor and perspective.  She gets herself into a lot of “situations” and the best parts are how she gets herself out.

Minimalist Lifestyle – This blog explains the joys of cutting down and cutting out the clutter in your mind and in your environment.  It’s about simplicity as a goal and getting down to the basics for ultimate living.  I always feel clear headed after reading one of his posts! Would that it would stay that way!

Coffee Kat Blog – Kate is a fabulous writer, full of humor, wit and endless stories of the people in her life, the fun and funny incidents, her cats,  and her experiences in the Human Resources field.  Her meanderings are well worth reading for sheer enjoyment.

Coming East – Coming East was one of the first blogs I ever followed.   I am  still a devout fan of Susan’s for her insightful, heartwarming stories, beautiful photographs, and I love it when she throws  in a surprise, comedic zinger!  She always catches me off guard with her trick endings, while at other times she is seriously profound.

Jonesin’ After 40 – Stacy is truly a versatile blogger who deserves immense appreciation for her delightful stories and reflections on the joys and challenges of family life, love, and children.  In between she laces her blog with hilarious observations on coping with life’s changes after 40.   I can hardly wait for the next one (post that is – the life’s changes I can do without)!

Serene Scribe  –  Writing to find peace and harmony,  Dana brings us into her very special world of charm and humor.  Her stories grab you from the start as places to laugh out loud (like the one about her first visit to a chiropractor) or to learn something profound.  Warning! Dana’s posts are addictive.

O.K.  You can bring on the handcuffs.  I have no remorse!

Congratulations to Dana of Serene Scribe for all the new and well deserved awards she has received recently.  And thank you Dana, for naming my new blog for the One Lovely Blog Award.  It is truly a lovely thing to see that shining heart image in the side column.  And every time I see it, I know I will again be grateful to have met such inspiring fellow bloggers in this whole process.  One lovely thing can make a day extra special, and today was my day!

The Rules of Acceptance of the One Lovely Blog Award are:

  • Thank the person who gave you this award
  • Include a link to their blog
  • Next, select 5 blogs/bloggers that you’ve recently discovered or follow regularly.
  • Nominate those bloggers for the Awards
  • Finally, tell the person who nominated you 7 things about yourself.
  • In the same post, include this set of rules.
  • Inform each nominated blogger of their nomination by posting a comment on each of their blogs.

The best part of this award is that I get to share it with other accomplished bloggers.  Please take a few moments to check out their blogs:
