Yesterday I actually drove to downtown Lexington, Virginia all by myself. I parked in a nicely arranged parking lot with stairs at the end, and went for a walk. And then I climbed up one stair and back down and then two stairs and down and then THREE steps up and down.
Talk about self congratulatory pride! I felt like Rocky!
And then I walked on level ground for about 20 more minutes.
HURRAH!
Big Foot complained a bit but we managed to ignore all that. “I am woman. I am strong. I am invincible!”
Of course walking in a parking lot is not too exciting. There are certainly not many photo ops, but the sun was shining yesterday with a cool little nip in the air, and the traffic was nil, and I took my trusty cane for balance. That little parking lot is now my personal training track!
In the good old days around 1998 the goal was to walk 10,000 steps. But my pedometers don’t work anymore. I suspect it is because the goal is now low low low! What pedometer would be caught displaying 150 steps anyway?
So out with the pedometers.
Now the goal is just some time moving….. any time moving….. just moving.
Today I feel pressure to enter a blog post.
What about all that beneficial walking?
To do or not to do? That is the question.
Walking is more important really.
But blogging is a good excuse not to do what I set out to do yesterday.
I promise I will start walking again tomorrow.
Keep up the walking!

Any moving is good even if bigfoot isn’t excited about it! It makes an excellent blog post!

Congratulations! You made yourself walk!
I walked in a parking lot some years ago. We had lots of snow that hadn’t melted, and there really was no other safe place to walk. The sidewalks had not been cleared, and the street was narrow and busy. I continued walking there until the snow melted and I could resume my normal route through the village and beside the inlet.

Good for you! All you have to do is keep moving – one step at a time, one foot in front of the other. And blogging is good for you too!

I like when a goal becomes something more than steps: just to keep moving. Congratulations on succeeding!

I’ve been trying to get back to walking again as well.. An hour on the malecon for 4 days, but today up the mtn. for as far as I could go before hitting a gate, then around a long four blocks with an uphill slant.. and cobblestones all the way. A beginning.

Oh my goodness Dora, I know just how you feel. I now have to push myself to go walking and then I haven’t the courage like you have, to go by myself since the last fall I had really upset my balance. But I agree walking is the best excersize needed. Keep up the good work and you will reap the benefit I am sure.

All of this trying Rita,to regain youthful vigor and balance is tiring. Makes me want to get back in the recliner! But the experts say walking is the best thing we can do for ourselves. I have to go to town for concrete and fairly level ground. We have an uneven gravel drive that makes me afraid of falling so I know how you feel. Falling is the worst thing that can happen to us now.

Running through my head is my mantra, “If you stop moving, you die.”
Wouldn’t it be fun if we could walk together?

I’m so proud of you!!! Walking is excellent exercise – as we say in the workout program I do every day, motion is lotion! It keeps the joints lubricated and our muscles working. Keep it up my friend :).

You can do it; slow and steady wins the race. You know what they say…motion is lotion. 🙂

It would be great to walk together Anne. You will have to plan a trip here. The only problem is I can only walk abut 40 feet before turning back. 🙂

Thanks for the words of wisdom! I feel like the tortoise and the hare and going at a snail’s pace. Slow and not particularly steady but determined to soldier on.

But you are walking, and that is marvelous. It would be super to see you and Bill. We have no trips planned, though. I haven’t been further away than Charlotte since COVID started.
