He didn’t stay long.
And of course he arrived uninvited.
I was just having breakfast and almost choked on my tea. I looked out toward the forest and there he was.
Was that a dog? Maybe.
But, no, too tall – and the legs were way too long.
And then, as if he sensed I was watching, he disappeared into the forest.
Google to the rescue!
I found close enough photos to confirm what I saw was a Bobcat! He was the size of a very tall athletic dog with long gangly legs. And in a strange way he was quite beautiful.
May Bob reside peacefully in our forest primeval alongside his friends (the bears and other wildlife we are suddenly seeing around here).
Do you suppose the months of lockdowns for the corona virus have lulled seldom seen critters into thinking our rural habitat has returned to Eden?
Animals are having a great year, that is for sure. The world does go on without us, probably happily. 😉

What a sighting! You had time to study him for a short time before he disappeared.

Animals are definitely out and about more I think! We’ve seen bobcats around here too. At first, we were like “What the heck was that?” Then we figured it out.

He is a beautiful animal. Did Elsa spot him too? Maybe what she’s been barking at lately?

My daughter has seen bobcats in their backyard – in the city of Calgary. The wild rabbit population drew the bobcats to the city.

Was yours this gray color? I’ve only seen golden tan ones before.

Likely Bob was just trying to figure out where all the people went.

One hot summer morning I opened my drapes to see a bobcat laying on my back patio with his front paw in the pool! He was very peaceful and enjoying the warm sun.

Glad you share your space with the animals! May Bob live in peace.

Oh how utterly COOL that you saw a bobcat!! It’s been a rare bobcat sighting for us around here. What a lovely gift you had from the Universe.

Thanks Kathy! It really is a treat to see something so rare as a Bobcat.

The creatures of the wild seem a bit bolder this summer and I have a feeling it is because there is less human encroachment as people sequestered in place.

Wow! Wouldn’t it be great to have a photo of that?!

Actually he was a kind of tiger tan with some spots too. I didn’t have time to get a photo andd this was the only one I could find that would easily transfer to the blog. I suppose bobcats are like people though – all a bit different.

They are definitely fascinating to see but I am glad this one was slightly uncomfortable so close to our house.

No, Elsa missed the bobcat but I’m sure when we take her out she is acutely aware of odd scents nearby.

Not much time for studying but enough for me to wonder what in the world that was.

I know what you mean! My daughter said she walked around the corner of the house the other day and there was a bobcat sitting in the yard about 15 feet from her. She came to a sudden stop, then slowly backed away. Bobcat just watched…

Yikes! Your daughter was really smart to keep her composure like that. Thankfully I was behind closed doors when I spotted the Bobcat.

Perhaps the virus has given nature and the earth a well needed rest at the expense of human health.
