No, I am not the type of person who wants to run into an icey sea for any reason.
However, I continue to miss swimming in a warmer pool of water. BigFoot has also been crying out for a bit more exercise.
About BigFoot:
For any newcomers to my blog, please know that BigFoot is the nickname for a problematical left foot that swells off and on. There were nine different diagnoses. The latest concensus is a combination of arthritis and a damaged nerve.
Submersion in water seems to help the swelling. But mostly there is the proud reaction I get from simply sinking into the water and hanging on a noodle. If I kick my feet I feel like I’m exercising!
I suppose you can tell I have begun to visit our community indoor pool – our local Aquatics Center. What a joy!
I have been there one time and ready for the second visit this week!
It is a dome covered pool. It is also the largest pool I have ever seen except on t.v. for the summer Olympics. There are eight very long lanes and at the time I went, I had two of them all to myself.
I think those open two lanes are reserved for un-serious lap swimmers, who simply dog paddle on a noodle from end to end.
Wait a minute! Isn’t EXERCISE really a subjective term?
In my case it means BigFoot is engaged in gentle kicking.
On Day One I even abandoned the noodle for short periods of real swinning. Now that is EXERCISE – right?
Like I said, “subjective.”
Now please stay tuned for more excitement after my Day Two visit this week.
Exciting! I went to our rec center pool at least three times in five years. I’m sure your attendance will be better than that. Surely Bigfoot will appreciate it. Fingers crossed!

Happy New Year 2020, Dorann! I love using the noodle and dumb bells in my water exercise class! Stay with the ‘program’ and enjoy your covered pool! ~Liz

Love it, here in New England everyone is doing a plunge for a charity I will just write a check 🙂 Now if I had a lap pool heated by the sun here I would use it daily 🙂

The great thing about swimming is that you can pretty much do it with any injury. Hurt your shoulder? Here’s a kick board. Hurt your foot? Use your arms only and drag that leg.
I did not enjoy summer diving into freezing water at 8 AM, but I’m glad my father insisted on swim team after all.

Poor Big Foot, didn’t realize it was still bothering you Dor 😢. Swimming is one of the best exercises because it doesn’t injure you while you do it like many others! I even had a friend who injured her neck doing yoga for heaven’s sake! Enjoy your swims and don’t let anyone make fun of you for noodling – you’re out there, that’s what counts!

Yay for you and yay for Big Foot! Plus it has to be lovely swimming in a nice, warm, indoor pool in winter. 🙂

I like the word noodle. We didn’t have water noodles when I was a kid. They look like fun!

I am often reminded by my family of excellent swimmers that it is the best kind of exercise. As a poor swimmer myself, I take it with a grain of salt.

It looks like exercise to me. You are fortunate to live near such a wonderful pool.

Well, I have been to the pool twice now and feeling noble. Problem is I am a notorious quitter. I just hope I can keep this resolution going.

Thanks Liz! I do feel out of place since all the rest of the lanes are taken by serious lap swimmers while I Iumber along on my noodle. 🙂

Brrrr! I don’t think I could do a “plunge” even for a good cause.

Oh just the thought of diving into freezing water (at whatever time) would be enough to “stop me cold.”

Thankyou Tina for the encouragement re my “noodling.” I really do feel like an odd character since everyone else in the place is a serious lap swimmer. The thing is though….. the little bit I’m doing seems to help BigFoot .

It does feel good to swim even just a little so my resolution is to go once a week and if I keep loving it to maybe go twice.

We didn’t have noodles either when I was a kid. I learned to swim with “water wings” made of inflatable canvas – and then my Dad just let go one day and voila! success!

Some things just make a person smile. For me, one thing is swimming (even if it is with a noodle). 🙂

I love your attitude. It’s how I feel about calisthenics or running, or cooking, etc.

It does feel like exercise since when I come home I collapse and sleep for 2 hours.

Just think, the more you quit, the more things you started!

I didn’t have water wings either. I learned in high school with a very nice gym teacher. After that I was fascinated with the diving board. As a young kid we rarely when to a pool. Most of the kids went to the river but my mom didn’t let because of the poison ivy (and drowning).

SO sorry you are still dealing with that issue. 😦 Swimming is freeing though.

Noodling and kicking Bigfoot is exercise! What a great place to go and have a safe lane all to yourself. I haven’t been swimming in years and would probably need a noodle. Keep up the good work!
