I used to keep photograph albums.
But somewhere around 2006 the albums came to an abrupt halt. It was about the time I received the gift of a cell phone that produced remarkable pictures.
The problem was that all photos from 2006 onward became buried somewhere in the phone or in my computer or in the nebulous ubiquitous CLOUD.
The “progress” in technology resulted in a twilight zone of lost time.
I stopped mounting my favorite shots lovingly in a photo album.
Time stopped.
This Christmas Bill gave me a SMART PHONE PHOTO PRINTER that actually works!
One brave step backward for mankind!
I have now reopened the last unfilled, ready-and-waiting-photo-album and began adding some pictures of a friend’s baby sent to us in a Christmas card. Then there are smart phone photos; one of Bill on New Year’s Eve, a somewhat jarring selfie of me, a shot of Elsa-the-dog, and a picture of two good friends who came visiting over the holiday.
This little machine is a miracle!
Will it result in a rebirth of the age-old practice of saving photographs in albums?
If you ask me, no. I am already sure the gadget will stop or the materials will no longer be available.
But it’s a start. Time to take pictures! And at least for the beginning of 2020 there will be memories in an album.
I save to a thumb drive the ones I want to one day print and then you can plug it into Walmart, Walgreens, etc. machines but your gift sound cool my phone not good enough for great photos xo

Your printer is exciting. There are times when a photo in the hand is immeasurably better than an image on the screen. Have fun with it!

This is exactly what I need, Dor. Do you mind sharing a link to where I could purchase it? Also, is it user friendly…I’m horrible with tech devices. Thanks!

Dor, you deserve a commission for all the devices you will sell from this post! I love that little printer, and think its might make an appearance on my doorstep via Amazon!

I’ve heard it said that while we take more photos than ever before people today preserve fewer photos than ever before. I’m the same. I rarely print photos because I have such a huge backlog of photos and even slides from the past but hard drives fail, cloud services close down or we forget the passwords. Maybe we should promise ourselves to print at least a couple of photos from every family event or holiday to preserve them for the future.

The funny thing is, before digital we had too many pictures to sort and paste. Now it’s about ten-fold that. We’ll be leaving thumb drives in our will before long.

Good for you Dor! I too was an album maker for years. I have dozens of them. Then I discovered on-line bookmaking and have been thrilled with the result. I can fit so many more photos in less space and can add text, photos of tickets and other memorabilia- I’m telling you, it’s a miracle!!! There are even services that will slurp your photos right from your phone and do all the work for you in a matter of days, sparing you from any work at all. Might help rescue those lost years😊. Enjoy your new toy, it’s all about fun and memories whichever way you go

I miss the paper pictures too. I don’t often go in the cloud to browse.

Oh, I gave up albums too and always did a Christmas album. I did not know about smart phone printers. I will have to consult my Bill. You are so smart, Dor! All the best to you in 2020!

What a great gift ❤ its surprising how photo albums got less as phone usage became more. Enjoy your new gift ❤

I’m with you. Photo albums seem like a much more permanent way to keep track of photos. The smart phone printer looks wonderful.

We are certainly enjoying the little photo printer gadget…. and hoping it will not come and go too quickly.

Hi Jill, According to Bill, he got it at Sharper Image. I think they sell them all over – like Amazon for sure, but we do like the Sharper Image one.

Uh Oh! I never thought I was being a marketing rep for photo printers. I hope you will love yours as much as I love mine though. 🙂

Good idea that…. to save a few photos from every family event or holiday. In the old days my family took pictures of scenery when on vacation. They forgot people mostly so the old albums were full of touristy pictures. I plan to shoot people mostly for the albums so we can see the people we love and loved way back when.

You have a diabolical mind Al! I would never imagine leaving a thumb drive in my will but I’ll bet you are onto something! LOL! 🙂

So far, so good. The little photo printer gadget keeps on working and I am back to adding selected “best” photos to an album once again. 🙂

Yes, those are the ones to print and maybe some favourite places as things change. Buildings get demolished, beloved holiday spots burn down or become urbanised. But yes, especially the people.
