Butterfly on Wicker
August 6, 2019 by dorannrule
Another country view of summer in Virginia. Here’s a butterfly the color of the sun, in for a rest and willing to pose for a picture. This fella makes photography easy.

Your photography is beautiful – I bet National Geographic would love to have you take nature photos for their magazine!

Wait, wait, I know this butterfly! Tiger Swallowtail, the official “Virginia State Insect.”
I was surprised to learn the state insect was not, in fact, a mosquito.

Maybe he wanted to sit close to me. I was in the chair next. 🙂

I have noticed, to my delight and surprise, that yellow Swallowtails are not frightened by my presence in the garden. When I’m watering the Butterfly Bush and one comes by, it lands right on it, even if I am two feet away watering the same bush!

They do seem to have a love of motion – people in the garden. Maybe it’s us they love?
