New Kitchen

Old Kitchen
We did it.
We took the plunge.
After 30 years, we decided to update our out-of-date kitchen.
We started with the countertop which was a fake wood grained formica and slightly chipped. We opted for a soft gray quartz which appealed because quartz is billed as non-porous, heat and scratch resistant, and “antimicrobial.” And besides, one of my good friends has it and loves it. I am also particularly drawn to antimicrobial. In other words, I am a germ freak.
That kitchen counter update took weeks and weeks on order and then more weeks to installation. And that was after they said my selection was not in stock after all and we had to choose another. I am not a particularly patient person you know.
The kitchen counter was finally installed, was still a soft gray and antimicrobial – I am a happy germ free person now. And Elsa-the-dog was delighted because the constant flow of workers in and out of the house had ceased.
But then we found a wonderful expert kitchen “restorer” who replaced all our fronts. My own front could stand replacing about now too since it is even older than 30 years! But the kitchen cabinet front overhaul looked like it would only take two days but wound up taking two weeks. The problem was with the old lazy susans which would not balance. I guess they did not like strangers handling them after 30 years!
Anyway, it has been an agonizing process but the new kitchen is installed and is operable and is actually a delight. I sometimes just stand and admire it.
But am I inspired to cook more?
Ha!

It looks great, Dor! Of course you don’t want to cook in that nice kitchen. You wouldn’t want to get it dirty. 🙂

Your new kitchen is wonderful and I didn’t think your old one was objectionable! However, the new cabinets or cabinet doors and new counter tops make all the difference in the world. Congratulations!!! 😘Julie

Your new countertops and cabinets have given your kitchen a lift and I expect they will be easier to keep clean so less work for you. Yay! My Cindy would have loved all the tradesmen coming and going but she’s very sociable.

It always takes longer than predicted, and at least one thing goes wrong, and there’s always that moment of panic when we think, “What have i gotten myself into?” But the new is lovely. I hope that little desk still is there.

The new kitchen sure looks snazzy! I like it! I think eventually we are going to replace our counter tops in ours too, so I’m interested in how you end up liking your new ones. And I have to add just because your kitchen now looks new and spiffy does not mean you have to mess it up by cooking. That’s what restaurants are for! 😉

I once knew a man who stored his shoes in his dishwasher. Seemed ridicculous at the time but now maybe?

Hurrah! I am so happy you like our new kitchen Cindy. It was really archaic at 30 years old and the old formica counter top was chipped. We opted for a quartz countertop (somewhat pricey) but saved a whole lot of time and money by putting new fronts on the cabinets and drawers.

You are so right Eliza! The job is finally done and in the next few weeks I should begin to trust the new countertop not to shatter or stain and the cabinet fronts to still be attached and hanging straight. 🙂

Hahaha! I love your take on things. I surely don’t want to mess up the snazzy kitchen by cooking in it. Great thinking! 🙂

We grinned and bore it Al, but you are right, we have survived and the end result is great to stare at. I have cooked a few meals now and everything seems to be cooperating.

I so want to do mine and I loved your choice of quartz and the color perfect!
Your place is beautiful as is the land you are on and surrounded by why not make the heart of the home stunning.
Last nights supper was from my garden and flowers in bloom daily but the home sits for the most part unloved so maybe I will gut it this winter a section at a time and show her so love.
Wish you did not live 12 hrs away.
