Elsa-the-Dog on Dehydration
My humans seem to think I am a crazy critter, especially when it comes to water.
The first odd thing they did was put two water dishes down. One is in the kitchen next to my food dish. And the other is in the bedroom in case I get thirsty at night.

Water Dish Kitchen
I am afraid to drink from the kitchen water. I will not touch it. Never. Ever.
As for the bedroom water, I only drink there when nobody is looking and I hold my thirst for a long time before I try to sneak back into the bedroom.
The Lady thinks I am getting dehydrated.

Water Dish Bedroom
She also thinks there must have been a water trauma in my previous life. Maybe she is right. What do you think?
One day I got something stuck in my throat and it made me cough and cough. The Lady decided to put another water dish by the fireplace. I like it there and it is my favorite place now.
She also put a water bowl out on the deck. I like that too.
So now there are four water dishes in my home!

Water Dish Deck
I think the humans here are strange, don’t you?
But I have stopped coughing.
I need to remind myself to keep drinking water now that the temperatures are hitting summer-like levels. I’m not sure I’ll resort to bowls, but a pitcher and glass would be good!

Elsa, the only time you have too much water is when you’re drowning …

Hi Dora, At first from the title, I thought you were having floods because of the recent weather conditions in all countries. Glad that wasn’t the case. Love the way you are thinking for Elsa you must be on a good wave length with her.

OH so lucky to have you, poor JT would chock, come find me and I would put a finger down her throat she would stop and then wag her tail when I would say “feel better?” There once was a time I would have to remind her to go get a drink but never when I have French Vanilla Iced Coffee from DD in my hand lol she would stare at me till I took the lid off so she could drink most of it. You will have so many memories of this new one in your life and we get to hear about them too a sweet bonus. xo

I recently read something about cats who don’t like to drink next to their food. The premise is that in the wild a carcass may contaminate the water supply so they didn’t eat and drink at the same spot. I have no idea if this is true. Like you have have a few water dishes around and cats don’t drink much at all.

Interesting. I have a double water dish for my two. Bowls are side by side and each one drinks out of a different one. Neither will drink out of the other’s bowl. If their own bowl is empty they will go to the bowl on the porch to drink rather than use the other one’s bowl.

Elsa is my shadow now Rita. We are together so much I can’t help but read her mind (and maybe she can read mine too).

I am hoping Elsa knows but your very human reminder is very sweet.

We are building those memories Eunice, starting from scratch of course. You have a huge storehouse of loving to recall and I am sure you would not trade a second with JT. The pain is still raw. I know.

Two out of four water bowl placements met with her approval. I make keep the third for “just in case.”

Wow! Your tale of cats who will not drink next to their food has me wondering if this is some ancient genetic memory driving Elsa to avoid the kitchen water. Fascinating.

When our son was born I had the Dr. Spock book on how to parent. Unfortunately thgere is no book for Elsa.

Your furry kids respecting their water bowls is so fascinating. Where and how do they come to these decisions ?

What fun! I’d love to talk to Elsa. We have no travel plans to NY at the moment, but I’ll keep that in mind. Thank you.

Great advice Eliza! And I have indeed purchased many years of Cesar Milan’s methods as well as the Lucky Dog video. There are gems of wisdom in them all.

Oh bless. A bit of variety is the spice of life, so the 4 water bowls must be very appreciated 😁

OH God it is the worst I am so lost without her but each day I wake to no routine now that she has been gone 28 days nothing is the same.
I spend hours working my yard and making sure she is not near my tractor then I pass by her freshly planted grave and remember. The camera helps at the end of all the hard work I am doing . I am still planning on road trip I think 2nd week of June I will let you know which way I head and will come close to you.
Thank you

Hang in there Eunice…. it takes such a long time to feel you can go on without crying. I used to wonder how actors could turn on tears. Now I know if I think of Rozie and her last day I can cry on cue. But now I can also smile at our memories and I see much of Rozie in our new little Elsa. You will come back. Hang in there Eunice…..
