This Christmas has come and gone but it doesn’t feel quite gone.
- Our pretty little tree still glows in its place of honor.
- And no matter how I resist, the peanutbutter fudge calls my name.
- And so do the truffles along with those scrumptious European style Christmas cookies.
- And don’t forget the peanut brittle and banana bread with chocolate chips!
- All the treats combined are a symphony calling, calling, and designed to lure me into a sugar high.
- A “Santa’s Fave” night shirt is still under the tree waiting.
- There is a brand new portable MANUAL typewriter waiting for me to experiment with “the old way” to type. I wonder if these old fingers are strong enough. I have been groaning about computer keyboards for years but will have to find some other modern thing to complain about now. (No intention of giving up the computer however. A manual typer is like going back to the horse and buggy – a delightful visit to the past but one needs to return to the future).
Other Merry Moment reminders of the picturesque past have come unbidden this Christmas:
- I almost forgot to put the bacon bits on top of the green beans and that reminded me of my Mom who served peas for dessert one year long ago. We are still laughing over that.
- And I was as surprised as anyone that this Christmas dinner was actually palatable. It made me recall Dad saying, “That was delicious if I do say so myself.”
This year our Christmas was quiet and missing the noise and chaos of yesteryear. Family and close friends are scattered to points west.
Still this was a good kind of quiet with a new little dog to make us laugh and play, and good friends sharing dinner.
Now it is time to wish you, my cyberspace friends, a Happy New Year and wishing yoy your own Merry Moments that live on and on.

Elsa and her Dog Mat
I am so glad you had a dog to celebrate Christmas. Our immediate family is yon and hither too but we have had some dinners with friends to make it festive. Wishing your household the best new year.

Peas for dessert???? I went to a dinner party once where the hostess served a cake with coffee in it. She misunderstood the recipe. She was supposed to put of cup of room temperature brewed coffee in the cake, but instead put in a cup of ground coffee beans into the cake. We all took bites and tried to chew this horrid tasting crunchy coffee. No one said anything at first, but the facial expressions were priceless. It still makes me cringe and laugh at the same time….
Happy New Year Dor!

Funny story Cindy! My Mom didn’t actually serve the peas for dessert. She had forgotten to serve then with the turkey so after dinner when we were all having dessert she said, “Would anyone like some peas?”

Ours was a quiet Christmas too, but that was ok. It seems you had a good Christmas with plenty of leftovers. Lovely tree! Elsa looks happy too. All the best to you in the coming year! Cheers!

Our Christmas celebrations shrank when we moved south. Of course we miss the huge gathering of relatives, but even that has changed. We have all scattered, so things would not have been the same, even if we still lived there.
I enjoyed reading about your Christmas, now quieter like ours.
Happy New Year!!

We also had a quiet Christmas except for seeing all my family on Skype on Xmas day. My newly born great granddaughter is adorable. It was the first time for about 12 years I cooked the dinner and I thoroughly enjoyed it. This was because the previous years we went out for Xmas day lunch. So this year like you, we were cosy and warm and enjoying our dog Koko and his antics. Wishing you and family good health ,happiness and much luck for 2019.

I’d say you had a lovely Christmas even though it was quiet (well, except for your sweet new doggie companion). May you be blessed in the New Year, Dor!
