Elsa the little Dog, has been with us almost a month now.
She is learning to live in a strange environment, is eager to please, finds joy in having a home and hearth to call her own, and loves it that food is only as far away as the nearest human hand.
What more could a a little dog want?
Well, since you asked,says she,
“I WANT THIS PLACE FOR MYSELF!
Elsa will bark to a deafening screech at strangers, cars, or unusual sounds. She even barks at Bill as he emerges from another room.
She never barks at me however. I am the Self Proclaimed Ruler of the Kingdom.
LET ME SLEEP PERCHANCE TO DREAM
Elsa sleeps quietly all night in her new Serta Mattress Bed for Dogs and she never leaves it until morning.
BUT she is territorial over that bed. Don’t touch it, move it or try to sleep in it. She is the gatekeeper. Serta should hire Elsa for advertising purposes.
OMG THE FOOD HERE IS FIT FOR THE DOGSGODS – MORE PLEASE!
Elsa loves to eat. We also trainbribe her with mini dog biscuits and we even heat her wet food to add flavor and aroma to her kibble. Her appetite knows no limits.
AND LET ME RUN FREE
Bill decided to give Elsa a “ride in the car” as a treat but when he opened the door, she bolted. What followed was a hunt for a little dog in a great big tourist resort (the Natural Bridge of Virginia).
Bill got lots of exercise chasing her up and down hills and finally, with the help of two State Park Lady Attendants, Elsa was seemingly happy to be retrieved.”
Stay tuned for more on Mighty Dog Wishes Fulfilled, by Elsa, the Little Dog Who Wanted to and Could.
Energetic little puppy.

Hmmmm…you may need a gps dog tracker for her collar. She sounds like a handful. Of course that’s under your excellent tutoring. Glad she is so happy!

Elsa surely knows how lucky she is to have found a home and people to care for her but she’s still carrying many fears from the past. Maybe you could get her a car harness to strap her in on car rides and attach to her leash when you get her out. Cindy tends to jump out of the car before I’m ready although she doesn’t run away. When we had a wagon we had a cargo barrier and kept her in the back.

Sounds like someone might like a Bark Collar for Christmas. 🙂
(My sister says it works very well …no zaps, just high pitched beeps and it only takes a day to work, just putting it on tells them ‘no barking.’)

I’ll be waiting for that children’s book, Dor!

Hi Dor, I LOVE your blog post on Elsa. I laughed out loud at the image of Elsa bolting out of the car and Bill’s hunt for her…then I shed a few tears reading how lucky she is to have found you and Bill….I know she is quite a challenge…Thank you for rescuing her xo

Well at least Elsa is not eating, “Wild Caught Yellowfin Tuna with Garden Greens and Wild Rice in a Delicate Sauce.” Herbert likes this bunches and it costs about a buck twenty for 3 oz! I kid you not. He also enjoys “Wild Caught Salmon Florentine.” I kid you not. And you know who got him started on this….. He fancy feasts, while I make creative use of hamburger for the humans.

Can we say harness 🙂 Good update on all her antics ❤

Elsa may lead you on a merry chase, but you will have lots of fun.

She is full of vim and viror – and probably not as old as her write-up says she is.

Thank you – A harness is a great idea although Bill had her on leash when she escaped from the car, dragging it behind her. Didn’t slow her down much but Bill was able to nab her.

This is a great idea Eliza! And I actually ordered one and we were testing it tonight. She is a hard case though…. seems to be terrified of new people entering her world.

Hmmmm…. I never even thought about writing a children’s book, but – “Hmmmmmm.” Thanks Jill!

Thanks you Emmy! Elsa has been busy barking at William so we figured out how to work the bark collar and have been testing her on that. She does fine until I take the collar off and William won her over anyway.

And I thought we were the champion dog spoilers! Bill refuses to heat Elsa’s food before sesrving but I keep asking him if he would like cold food every morning of his life. Herbert is one lucky dog! And now I can’t get Wild Caught Salmon Florentine out of my head as an option for Elsa.

“Harness” is not a bad idea Eunice – especcially for car travel.

In some Australian states it is the law that dogs must be restrained in a harness or behind a cargo barrier in a car. This is because in the event of an accident the dog could go flying forward with catastrophic results.

Hi Dor. Love your little dog. Miss Lotte was an escapologist and many hours were spent chasing a small black dog up and around our area. But I wouldn’t mind the opportunity to chase her once again. Sure do miss that little dog.

Oh, and Dor, a spray bottle filled with water worked wonders on the poodle that came into my life for a short time after Lotte crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Miss Bella was a yapper but she soon stopped with the water sprays.

Hi Dora, I’ve been waiting to hear how you were getting along with Elsa She certainly is energetic and full of fun. We have always had a harness on Koko attached to the lead when in the car because as you say, they are liable to jump out before you when the door is opened. John passes me the lead so that I get Koko out first .But Koko knows the routine now. We have had him for three years now and still worry about losing him. Maybe that’s a little over the top but better safe than sorry. He gets plenty of walks and T.L.C. I am so pleased you decided to have Elsa ,dogs bring so much happiness into the home. Give Elsa a big hug for me.

I had a dog like that. ‘Special needs’ for 11 years. It may take time until she truly feels safe again. Hoping for a Christmas ‘miracle!’

Oh, it sounds like she is really settling in to her new furever home and keeping you and Bill “active” shall we say? 😉 Especially with those merry chases.

Thanks Rita! I know how much you love Koko and that turned out to be a match made in heaven. I am hoping we will be able to convince Elsa how much she is loved so she will develop trust. She is trying her best and so are we and we already love her as if we have had her for years. 🙂

It has been a quiet morning except for our son’s arrival (one bark with the collar on) and then FedEx (a whisper bark). The bark collar seems to be working and I am glad it only emits sounds and mild vibrations. I am counting on a Christmas miracle to make her fully trust her new humans.

a must for a dog who has yet to be fully trained with verbal or hand signals 🙂 Ron said to tell you I train dogs 🙂 my dogs just were with me from 8 week on and I worked endless hours with each of them now if I could have trained men 🙂

It’s so fascinating how each dog has a different personality and different quirks. I hope you can train yours to love strangers and not bolt!
