Elsa on the Sidelines – Note: Lovage Herb still growing mid-November!
Today is chilly and wet here in rural Virginia. When we go outside, our new dog, Elsa, confines herself to exploring under the eves of the house where it is still dry.
I too confine myself to the interior to keep warm with wooly socks and comfort foods.
I am contemplating the arrival of Thanksgiving.
However – the stores are already playing Christmas music!
And whole aisles are devoted to holiday trimmings and diabetic inducing holiday sweets.
Time seems evermore meaningless.
Commerce demands earlier and earlier displays.
Maybe it would be a good idea to have Christmas in August for Bill’s birthday. Why not?
Tree and all.
My friends and I are becoming cynical about the charms of winter.
But then I discovered a magical snow globe.
- It plays holiday music.
- Turn it upside down and of course there is a gentle snow storm.
- And flip a switch for barn illumination and little colored lights that twinkle in the trees.
- I am transported in time to the sweet charms of Winter.
The little globe has done what no store display could do.
It has inspired me to look forward to a joyful winter season with much to be thankful for.
So no matter what holiday you celebrate, my wish for you is joy
and
warm socks.
Your new dog Elsa!!! Hooray!

That is lovely and it would make me look forward to winter too although of course our winter and Christmas do not arrive together.

My grandmother had a small glass snow globe. I was fascinated by it. And I was allowed to hold it – briefly – if I were as careful as could be!

I haven’t heard my first store Christmas music of the year yet. I can wait, preferably till December. Meanwhile, on cold nights I now wear socks to bed! I’m glad you are looking forward to the winter season. There is nothing else like it.

It’s warm inside the snow globe; that’s how we make it through winter. I’m glad that little snow globe brought you joy. Dear Dor, may you always be blessed with happy holidays and warm socks!

We got snow here in southeastern PA yesterday! Ugh! It’s pretty, but the driving was terrible. I am also very cynical about the charms of winter. 🙂

She is a Heinz variety rescue who has taken over our lives. 🙂

Thanks! I think I will keep it on my desk through the winter months. It makes me feel good to look at it. 🙂

I wonder what her previous Thanksgivings were like. She seems so frightened of new people.

Ditto Eliza! But this is the first one I feel so attached to. I actually purchased it for a friend but looks like I must keep it. 🙂

I have always loved snow globes but never so much as this one. Very strange.

I love winter. Maybe it is because I grew up in Florida? Wearing socks to bed is only sensible my friend – like hot tea and a soft fuzzy afghan. 🙂

We have yet to see Elsa in the snow! Should be interesting since she is so small. We will probably have to dig her a tunnel. 🙂

I don’t blame you! Maybe you can buy another. 🙂

Half of staying warm and cozy is gazing at a snow globe. Thank you Cindy!

We now have a collection of throws, and they are thrown about all over the house. I would so much rather be in a house that is too cool than one that is too hot. I love winter, too. I’m so happy we share that!

I’m with you, if I look closely I can picture myself in that warm barn and snowy scene. Love the Elsa updates, too!
**Hubbs Grandmother and Mine both loved snow globes and yes, now I have a collection** Talk about the “wonder” of Christmas!
Cheers!

Oh I love this. How our thoughts can be transformed by a seemingly small object like a snow globe that means so much more. Cosy sock wearing to you through the festive season ahead 🙂

Many thanks MJ! I have always loved snow globes but never collected them. Now I wish I had. They are so mesmerizing.

You are so right about thoughts being transformed by gazing at a snow globe. I know from now on I will be looking for other such treasures although I never paid much attention to them before.
