This afternoon my camera found a young Virginia White Tailed Deer having some large leaves for dinner!
Or are they Wildlife hors doeurves?

He must have a few of those since he looks very well fed. 🙂

I wondered if your white tail was a different species then ours, because I’ve never heard it called a “Virginia white tailed deer.” Here, they’re just called “white tails.” It seems the taxonomists have been busy, as there are many subspecies.
Yours and ours both are Odocoileus virginianus, but they are different subspecies.
They’re all cute — especially with a mouthful of leaves!

Our White tails have been in hiding for the past week or so. Was it the coming of Michael (storm) and the ensuing 7+ ” of R and 60 mph winds I ask? “Rut” should beginning now and the Deer most always, at least here on the shore, are active and very visible. I have called it the “Virginia” White Tailed Deer since the ones I photograph are here in Virginia. But you are right, they are simply called “White Tailed Deer” here too.

Yes, the deer are much more visible here lately too, so it must be the “season.” I haven’t seen any antler fights yet though.

We have white tails too and are seeing a lot more of them in the past few weeks. We also have mule deer! I’m sure glad I have a tall fence around my garden now!
