Moonlight Musing
October 1, 2018 by dorannrule
I have never been able to take a credible photo of the moon. This little cell phone camera doesn’t have the capacity (or maybe I don’t know what I’m doing?).
But one silvery night when the fog lay in low Virginia hollows and there was a shimmer on surfaces left wet from a creeping mist, I had to try again.

Still a beautiful and atmospheric image – I like it Dorann. I know what you mean, I also don’t get great results when I take distance shots of an object.

Moonlight on fog’s as good as moonlight on snow — well, almost. And fog and snow both muffle sound, which makes that kind of evening even more magical.

You did a great job on this shimmering moon! The fog looks like a lake and the light from the moon highlights your deck or porch. Well done!

Looks good to me!

The moonlight on the water is nice. I have trouble photographing the moon too. Only done on I liked and that was at dusk.

Your photos are great. I’ve never captured the moon to my liking, either.
Your second paragraph is lyrical. Would you ever write a short story? If so, please consider using that sentence to begin. I want to know what happens when the fog lies low in Virginia hollows.

Well, we all kind of know what the moon looks like – you caught the moon in the act of doing magic!

Looks pretty good! My old cell phone doesn’t take great photos at all, but I refuse to spend so much money on a fancy new one.

Great photos Dor. Well done. Your introduction reminded me of the poem The Highway Man –
“And still of a winter’s night, they say, when the wind is in the trees,
When the moon is a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas,
When the road is a ribbon of moonlight over the purple moor,
A highwayman comes riding”

You are so right shoreacres! Moonlight on fog, snow, water can make for mystical night shows.

Your comment made me look again at the fog. And it does look like a lake! It’s all in the perspective isn’t it?

Actually it is really moonlight on fog! Another blogger friend (shoreacres) made that observation – that it looks like a lake in my photos, and so it does!

Thank you so much for that observation Anne. I have thought of writing a story but never get around to it. I guess that way I can always say I had it in me but it never got out. 🙂

My cell does o.k. but sometimes falls down on the job.

Thank you Judith! I love the Highwayman poem and sometimes I also like to write poems like Edgar Allen Poe’s. 🙂
