BigFoot was on the road again.
On the mend again.
Shrunken to a normal size.
Ahhhh!
And after nearly three years in and out of a Big Boot or hobbling around with a cane or crutches, or gliding on a knee scooter, BigFoot FINALLY started WALKING!
But wait.
There is now a BlueToe on the SkinnyFoot, thanks to a “maintenance visit” for a Podiatrist’s professional pedicure!
I always liked my podiatrist even though he frightened me occasionally with ragged pedicures.
But who am I to question the cutting techniques of an accredited podiatrist?
Note: Old people tend to elevate doctors to godly pedestals of eternal wisdom.
On this visit the good doctor once again cut a ragged edge and managed a very jagged cut on the SkinnyFoot’s Big Toe.
And this instantly caused a blue spot at the base of the nail.
Ever so politely, I asked, “What is that?”
And the doc said, “You must have stubbed it or something fell on it. Not to worry, it will heal in time.”
I took him at his word of course even though I knew there was no blue spot when I walked in and I had not stubbed my toe or dropped anything on it.
Old people tend to accept anything a doctor says, particularly if he is wearing a white coat!
And it was only a little blue spot after all. It would undoubtedly heal with time.
So off I went to PT (Physical Therapy).
And the Physical Therapist immediately gasped and asked, “Who butchered your toe?”
After hearing my story and since the entire toenail had turned a beautiful blue, she said, “Go see your family doctor ASAP!”
Metallic blue toenails are the “in” thing now. And that’s how BigFoot’s Big Toe looked….. blue.
Hmmmm. Do you think I should I go to a salon and get the other nine nails painted to match?
“A good thing you came in,” said my family doctor. “Looks like a blood blister. It will probably be fine. But watch and come back if you notice red streaks going up the foot or there is swelling or fever. Also soak the toe in salt water twice a day and apply antibacterial ointment.”
That was two weeks ago.
BigFoot’s Big Toe is still Blue.
Seems to be healing but I am afraid to wear closed toed shoes for fear of aggravating.
Will I lose the nail? Too soon to tell.
But this much is sure:
I do hope your *former* podiatrist is on your blog distribution list!

Yes, a new doctor seems to be in order. But you might see if you can get a color match on that color and paint all your nails with it before your next PT appointment. That could be fun. 😉

OMG ! Dora, If it’s not one thing it’s another isn’t it. Get some ” ARNICA ” it is especially for bruises. This is what I was advised to use by the pharmacist to bring out the bruising when I fell and landed on my face. Love your sense of humour throughout all your trials and tribulations You are brilliant and an example to us all. Let me know how you get on with the “ARNICA” it is very soothing.

A couple of years ago, I lost my big toe nail from running too much on my treadmill…I guess in the wrong shoes. No worries, Dor…they grow back!

Wow! What an experience! I know you didn’t wish for a blue toe. If I had a choice, I’d opt for a blue tooth.

Wow!!! You just can’t seem to catch a break can you? That looks really sore :(. Losing that podiatrist sounds like a good idea, especially since he couldn’t even own up to what he did!!

Yikes! Yes, I definitely think it’s time to lose that podiatrist! Hope your blue toe is soon a thing of the past.

The Doctor caused it but blamed you? Shame on him! sorry about your toe, but glad to hear the swelling is finally down!! Having lived through a foot surgery (where the recovery time was supposed to be 6 weeks “Oh you’ll be driving in nooooooooo time” – the the recovery was 12 weeks +, I GET it. Being on crutches/dependent/hobbling around is NO fun and hard on your body & soul ~ Happy Healing!! MJ

What a horror story. When you finally get it healed I would go back to the podiatrist and boot him right in the derrière with it!
I love my podiatrist. He has helped me correct plantars wart on one foot and hammer toe on the other, mostly through the use of prosthetics.

Good grief! Lose that podiatrist immediately!! Skinny Foot does NOT want to be Big Foot again.

There are some manicure places that do “medical” pedicures. A friend of mine had back surgery and couldn’t bend over for a long time and had her toes done at one. She had to be very careful because she had multiple health issues and a toe infection would not have been good. Good luck with your blue toe. It’s a fashion statement.

Goodness, what rotten luck. Definitely fire the butcher-podiatrist!

Hi Ted! No, my *former* podiatrist is not on my blog list so he will never know why he will never see me again. 🙂

Great idea Andrew! I would call it “advanced preparation” for mutilation. 🙂

Thank you once again Rita! I do have some Arnica in the house and will definitely try it!

I sure hope it grows back Jill…. it’s not very appealing to look at now. Thank you for sharing your own experience. It helps me a lot.

Fortunately Anne, blue is a popular color for toenails now. I wasn’t kidding about painting all of em to match. 🙂

I do love the idea of giving my podiatrist “the boot” Al! I love your diabolical plot. I am jealous that you love your own podiatrist though.

Wow! I have never heard of a medical pedicure Kate. Thank you. I will begin asking around about that but fairly certain it would not be available in my little town. That is the downside of small town living in rural Virginia. There are not a lot of resources. Maybe in Roanoke though – a bigger city an hour away.

Thank you Eliza. The deed is done. I have cancelled all future “maintenance” visits with that fellow.

Making your toes match sounds like a good plan to me.

You can ask at a nail place. Sometimes they have a person who does them. I don’t know what makes them “medical” but for sure there is no polish. My friend had them soaked and cut.

Oh no. I hope the toe heals soon. ❤

What an experience! Yes, we do tend to respect and listen to our doctors. I am thinking of changing doctors because I feel my current one is not listening. I live within walking distance of my doctor which makes it hard to go elsewhere. Good luck with your toe. Blue is a pretty color for nails 😊

You could have all your nails done in any color you want, not just blue. Strange!

From the title of your post I thought it was about “Sasquatch,” the Big Foot never seen but always engenders far fetched stories. Reality was much worse, and I’m sorry for your “toe situation!”
Be well and heal soon.

How great to hear from you Ronnie! And thanks for your good thoughts about me, BigFoot with a blue toe. Both the foot (which is way less swollen) and the toe (still blue) are trying to heal.

Thanks for going back in time with BigFoot Eunice. It seems to be happening all over again with the opposite foot now. But there is hope because SkinnyFoot is looking pretty good after 5 years.

Damn are you diabetic or teetering? I will continue to pray for a wonderful outcome so we can do something other than just paint on that porch though it is grand and perfect to do just that ❤
