Baltimore, MD -The View from our room.
I am home from a Big City-BigFoot adventure and happy to be alive and well.
Baltimore is a beautiful old Maryland city, with more than enough to do if you are young, agile, and don’t mind horrific traffic in the inner city.
Strike “young.”
Strike “agile.”
As for the traffic?
A nightmare!
But we somehow got where we were going in spite of white knuckle rides and hysterical screaming at our GPS lady and maybe one or two jabs at each other (to say nothing of unacceptable language).
For solace, we turned to food.
Have you ever had Maryland crab cakes? They are the best and of course I had to have crab at Phillips’ famous seafood restaurant. It was just around the block from the hotel, but may as well have been on Mars.
I am back to driving challenges again! Sigh.
But of course, the original purpose of our visit to Baltimore was for an appointment with an expert orthopedic doctor at The Institute for Foot and Ankle Reconstruction at Mercy.
And a wonderful doctor did spend a whole hour with us, discussing, analyzing, offering advice and answering many questions.
In a nutshell, this Gimpy Gal (me, Big Foot) simply (or maybe not) has an injured “talus” bone that may take a long time to heal.
So it was back to frolicking in Baltimore!
We frolicked over to the Whole Foods place and actually started to get lost in the garage. But we somehow frolickedstumbled into the place and found the six loaves of decadent bread I wanted so badly!
We would surely not starve with all that in the car right?
At breakfast next morning we managed some exciting sight seeing by looking out the window next to our table (no driving required).
There was a mysterious tent-covered barge-like THING with a giant water wheel and it was parked and floating in the harbor basin, and the big water wheel seemed to turn of its own accord when and if it wanted to.
We took turns guessing what the mysterious barge might be.
And I wondered why technology wouldn’t let me take a picture and ask Google to please identify the unidentified object. Why couldn’t I just say, “Hey Google, What is this?”
Whatever it was though, it made for great conversation over pancakes!
Can YOU guess what it really is?
This is the unidentified floating object.
To be continued….
You left us in suspense! I can’t wait to hear more.

An injured bone that will take a long time to heal? That’s the best they can do! Hope you had more than bread! Some kind of weird pontoon boat that charges exorbitant prices to take people a half mile?

Give me the country any day over the city (shudder). Hope the doctor was able to help you onto the ‘road of recovery’ (hopefully there won’t be much traffic there 😉 ). Can’t wait to find out what that thing is!

Actually there ARE apps for doing exactly that Dor! I’e used camfind which is a free app for iPhone. It tells me your image is a grey and white water wheel so I’m thinking it’s probably wrong but it tried! You just use the app to take a photo of whatever you’re trying to identify and it does it’s best to tell you what it is. On a more important subject, sorry the foot is still an issue but maybe knowing why it’s taking longer will at least make you feel better knowing it will eventually heal!

Oh, here we go again. Doing the same things and having the same results. Do you remember some of them, my American sister? When I fell and broke my ankle it was the Talus bone that cracked. But it did eventually heal so there is light at the end of your dark tunnel.
I am glad you enjoyed your trip to Baltimore. And in answer to your question; No, i’ve never had Maryland crabcakes although I should love to try them.

I think I know. That big wheel is designed to pick up floating trash from the water, to keep things tidy! What I’m certain of is that someday I need to have some of those Maryland crab cakes. My goodness, those look good.
What I have to know is–what kind of bread did you get from Whole Foods? I’ve never been in one of those stores, but I have to go into Houston for an eye appointment soon, and there’s a Whole Foods in the neighborhood. If whatever you got sounds good, I’ll try a loaf.
Do you suppose your talus would heal faster if you gave it occasional doses of Thomas Tallis?

The doctor was great! And I also prefer the country over the city….. getting ready to post the answer to what the “thing” in the river is. 🙂

I can’t believe you actually found an app that will define photographs! You are a marvel Tina! It is a grey and white water wheel but so much more. Also, the foot issue is a bit clearer now so the trip was worthwhile. 🙂

Now this twin talus experience across the world is definitely too coincidental! I am going to try making my own Maryland crabcakes in Virginia. I wish that you would come here some day to try them too. 🙂 I wish that you would come here anyway. 🙂

Oh yes, you must try Whole Foods. It is a bit pricey but check out their bakery. All their breads are great – European style crusty outside and chewy inside. Here in rural VA we get squishy white bread so “real bread” is my downfall if we ever find it. I think we got Olive, Italian, Pumpernickel, Seeded, etc. – six loaves (5 now in freezer). BTW, you are right on about the garbage barge! New post coming out momentarily with details. 🙂

Yikes! A cliffhanger! I have no clue what that is. I’m sorry that there was some white-knuckled driving issues…ahem…ah…experiences. I find myself the same way now in the big cities. I’m just too accustomed to rural life I guess. Anyhow, at least you got to the expert doctor and you got to go to Whole Foods and get your yummy bread. So win, win despite the aggravation…ahem…excitement.

Thanks Cindy! Life seems exciting no matter how mundane huh? Who would imagine a trip to a doctor would be filled with so many “experiences?”
