It’s done! It’s done!
And it’s the day AFTER my tooth extraction.
My new dentist is probably the best in the entire country. He is on my Super Star list even though he does his work from an exercise ball.
Because:
- There were no needles to accomplish numbness.
- He was strong and reassuring and explained every step of the way.
- It only took 30 minutes.
- AND THERE WAS NO PAIN!!!!!! Not during the procedure and not after and not today (the day after).
What more could anyone ask?
- Well, you might want to have a reassuring dental assistant too. Ruth Ann is another star in that office and is very sweet and reassuring.
- And you might want to know if the office is efficient and knows you or remembers you. Well, I told them once that I had an adverse reaction to epinephrine and they had that on record and didn’t use it!
The whole happy event yesterday reminds me of a (true) story.
Once upon a time I was a substitute teacher for a third grade classroom (for one day).
I had no control and the children literally went wild. They were so loud they couldn’t hear me begging them to simmer down.
And one red headed little boy locked himself in the bathroom. I had to call another teacher in for help.
What does this have to do with dentists you ask? Well, I had an appointment after class. And I was never so happy to get into a dentist chair!
I know. My long ago story doesn’t really seem to fit this current extraction episode. But, actually, it does because it was my first happy dentist-experience and yesterday was my second.
There are few of us who say, “I can’t wait to go to the dentist today.”

This is great news, Dor. Since I’ll be having a tooth extracted in the next week, I’m curious how it was done without Novacain? Will you have an implant? Glad you had a good experience.

That’s marvelous that you had a happy experience with the tooth extraction. You mentioned before that you did not see a dentist until you were a teen. I meant to tell you that I saw my dentist on a DAILY basis. Yes, you read it correctly. I saw him at breakfast and dinner. He was my dad.

I’m so glad to hear you’re ok :). Now do tell – the dentist was awesome at his job, but was he hot??? Inquiring minds want to know 😂.

That’s wonderful that you had such a good experience. I’m curious as to how they numbed you without using a needle??

Ok, how did he do it without numbing and pain. That sounds impossible but I’m glad it worked for you. Was there a margarita fountain in the waiting room?

Great idea the margarita fountain! But yes, there was numbing but no needles that I felt or saw. He pressed what felt like a firm Q-tip with what he called “cream” against the base of the tooth and then waited through a series of beeps. He did that front back and sides and then left me alone for the traditional numbing. Result: no pain. Hurrah!!!!!

He pressed what felt like a Qtip with some cream on it against the edges of the tooth and waited through a series of beeps. Then left me alone for a while until the numbness was complete. This fellow is literally “state of the art” dentistry. Love it.

Dear Inquiring Mind, I don’t think the dentist is too hot, but he is strong and sure and reassuring and has the best equipment out there. Ahem. Yes, “Awesome.” But I was too nervous to notice much else. 🙂 You WOULD think of that!

Oh, he did use a numbing agent…. not sure if they use Novocaine anymore. But this was not done with a needle unless he snuck it in when I wasn’t aware. He pressed some kind of numbing cream into the sides of my tooth – felt like a Qtip – no pain. And then he waited through a series of beeps and then left me alone for 5 minutes until everything was numb enough to proceed. Fantastic!

No, you didn’t. And even if you had, I would have used the “she’s afraid of dentists” filter. I’m always surprised at how many people dread going to the dentist. I don’t mind being in a dental or medical office, but I loathe making the appointment and am always afraid of being late.

I think he tricked you, Dor. The Q-tip is a numbing cream so they’re able to stick you with the Novocaine. 🙂 I’m glad it over for you!

I thought of that but there was no evidence of a needle…. didn’t see one…..didn’t feel one. Anyway, happily tricked maybe.

No beagle yet… still stealing ourselves and trying not to adopt a pup as long as I am still using crutches and a boot for the bad ankle. Dreams are nice though. 🙂

LOL! I was wondering if you would “get” the equipment factor. Should have known better. Now I am really laughing out loud! 🙂
