It was 0.6 degrees Fahrenheit outside when I opened my eyes this morning. I was looking at the ceiling where we can immediately know the time and the temp all lit up like a starry sky above. It was 6:00 AM and who needs to know the time and temp that early anyway? In fact, knowing made me want to go back to sleep.
But I had to get up to put chicken in the crock pot.
I was thinking,
“How can I arise, dress in something warm and cozy, and then head out to the kitchen with nary a sound?
“Should I just go back to sleep and forget the crock pot?”
“No, I answered. You have to stay on plan. So, it’s cold. You will survive.”
Now I am aware it is colder elsewhere in the country. And wetter. And snowier. Feeling sorry for myself and broadcasting that “woe is me” attitude is definitely self serving.
“Stay in bed, I thought, You are entitled to selfish self-serving pampering.”
“No, get up!”
“Get going.”
“Bill will love not having to cook dinner!”
“Just a little snooze huh?
This internal struggle continued and jumped to other concerns about the cold temperatures.
Do the lights go out just because it’s cold?
Why then, do I have the urge to hoard water and bread and why am I wanting to stock up for a surprise power outage?
Lucky us! There is no wetness in this part of Virginia. Not even any humidity. It’s just well, COLD! My youngest grandgirl was supposed to be here yesterday but she was stranded in Charleston, South Carolina! They had 6 to 7 inches of snow that melted a little and then froze. Bah Humbug!
My, that must have taken you hours to make! 🙂 We were a balmy 3 degrees this a.m. but the upper 40s are predicted by Tuesday. Is it Tuesday yet?

Well I certainly would have gone back to bed anyway. After I had prepared the chicken of course. That would most likely take up to lunch time to cook in a slow cooker so you would get up to a nice warm dinner. Then maybe go back to bed again Dora. Stay warm and take care. HAPPY NEW YEAR. X

No that’s a recipe I know I’ll love, especially that last ingredient.

Oh, I know that back and forth conversation! I have it every morning around 4 or 5 am, but it’s about cranking up the wood stove (so it is cold out there) and feeding our elderly cat, who is crying ‘cuz there is no heat and her food is out. Then I get to go back to bed, yes!
Your chicken recipe sounds good!

Tuesday is the magic day here too. But today it got to 28f and even the cows looked happier.

I did go back to bed Rita (right after I read your advice)! I do love the slow cooker since once everything is in you can just forget it.

Three ingredient cooking is the best way to go and add a slow cooker for happy results! 🙂

My body was screaming, “NOooooo.” And it took a great feat of courage to disengage the covers.

You are a bigger hero than I Eliza and what a lucky old cat you have. We have a big wood stove too but Bill has discovered the joys of staying abed while the electric furnace does the job. When the power goes out, that’s when we really appreciate the wood stove though and it gets so warm in here I have to open windows.

We had 4 degrees this morning and wore layers when we ran to the car. After church, I looked at the thermometer, and it said 40!!! My brain was still cold and couldn’t process that properly. I think our cold spell is over. John and grandson David passed you around 7:30 tonight as they drove to NY. I forgot to tell them to wave.

There is definitely an art to learning just how many logs to put on in connection with the indoor and outdoor temperatures. My spouse still hasn’t got that one right, lol!

There just aren’t enough recipes in this world that end with “go back to bed!”. This is definitely a keeper.

Very familiar thoughts, Dor, but I haven’t experienced that level of cold in a long time! Your recipe is my kind of cooking. 🙂 Happy New Year!

I hope the cold spell is over too Anne, but we had a little rain yesterday and that started to freeze on surfaces tonight.

Hmmmm! I may start a cookbook then and entitle it Jiffy Recipes that Let You Go Back to Bed. 🙂

It’s the only kind of cooking I do nowadays – Less than 5 ingredients and less than 5 minutes to prepare. Glad you like this one! 🙂

Love this simple recipe. I cook my food overnight in the crock pot so that it is done when I wake up. As to conversations in the morning…I can relate. Ginny my dog is fairly patient but sooner rather than later, I get up to let her out and put on the coffee.
Your recipe reminds me of my friend’s recipe which was whatever can be cooked on a paper towel in the microwave. She was finished with cooking!
Stay warm and enjoy!

Finally, an afternoon full of rain, so I have a little time to catch up with things. I’ve not used my slow cooker as much as I should, but this sounds like a recipe worth trying. Personally, I might go the extra mile and cut up an onion or two, and of course this sounds like it needs to be sprinkled with some cheese at the end.
All this talk about cozy beds is tempting. I rarely take a nap, but there’s a real cold front coming, and all this rain… Maybe I will!

I don’t blame you, for whatever reason I have such a harder time getting out of bed during the winter months. Probably because of the colder weather lol.
