There is a volunteer on my deck.
Is it the Spider or or is it the Sunflower?

I prefer the shot without the spider. Dor. 🙂 Beautiful flower!

Just a lovely spot of sunshine yellow — enough to make anyone happy (without the spider)! 😉

Ditto Jill, and I didn’t even see the spider when I took the shot. 🙂

The sunflower was truly a grand surprise and I think even the Basil loves it. 🙂

It’s a closeup of that visiting spider so it looks more ominous than it may be. My first reaction though was also, “Eek!” 🙂

Yes, and the spider seems to have vacated the area and the sunny bloom prevails. 🙂

Harmless spider, lovely flower! And really, basil gets along with everything doesn’t it? Mine from the aero garden just keeps on producing, of course, the stalks are treelike now and probably need to be removed. Enjoy your spot of sunshine, and your temporary visitor!😉

Perhaps the granddaddy long-legs is “volunteering” to take care of the surprise sunflower! We had a volunteer sunflower a few years ago (sadly, no granddaddy long-legs came with it). We think it came from the bird feed nearby.

I hope you are right Kim, about the harmlessness of the spider! He didn’t seem aggressive and I have to love him since he so loves that sunflower. 🙂

Yes! I like to think there is a double volunteer effort here – and additional cooperation from the happy Basil plant too. Working together is the secret and a good idea for humans too. 🙂

I’m so glad to see you with a sunflower planted in a pot. I have several on my deck in pots. (Of course, I didn’t realize that deer are able to climb steps, so they chomped off a few of them….)

Strange Dianna, but this sunflower was actually a volunteer. I only planted Basil in the pot. But the sunflower is so cute I may plant it again in pots in future. 🙂

Ditto Patti! The sunflower is a happy surprise here and surprising how much charm she adds to our mornings.

I have had sunflowers come up in the yard but never in a pot. Yours seems to be doing well and sharing with the basil. What a nice view for the morning! Good shot!

I may be planting sunflowers in pots every year now. 🙂
