This looks like Walter but the image is from en.wikipedia.org
I wasn’t ready to believe it but the sun came out yesterday – all day.
And I found myself reclining on a deck chair with bared arms and legs in way of confirmation.
They say twenty minutes of exposed skin to sunshine helps your body create its own Vitamin D. Ahhh – warmth that seeps into your bones and Vitamin D too!
Yes, it’s here!
It is truly summer!
It must be summer because the sun is shining.
Even our resident groundhog (who I secretly call Walter) came out of his underground den.
I could not get a closeup shot but I saw him all stretched out on the warm concrete pool deck.
At first I thought Walter was dead and was making plans for a decent burial.

Can you see Walter?
Then Walter stretched! It was one of those big luxurious catlike stretches. Walter was lying flat on his back and his little legs came straight out and he looked soooo happy.
Then there are the summer shadows and shady places that take me back to childhood somersaults and playing in the grass. Those were the days when Mom urged us to get out of the house (unsupervised) and “Don’t come back until I call you for dinner!”

Childhood Memories Under the Maple Tree
I’m too creaky for backbends and cartwheels, roller skating and climbing trees.
But it’s summertime in Virginia now.
I think I will join Walter in another big sunny stretch.
Summer time and the living is easy. and I just can’t resist, “Hello Walter.”

Who knew groundhogs realized their need for Vitamin D? Reminds me of days when there was less creaking, and shade under the big old beech tree, and lots of books to read.

LOL! Great shots, Dor! Walter is so cute. I guess he was soaking up the sunshine too.
By the way, I was trying to find you on Pintrest because I’m working with the cover design folks in Canada and I wanted to check out some of your Shenandoah Valley and river shots.

I had some big sunny stretches yesterday too. Finally, some warmth and sunshine. But you keep Walter down there. His cousins up here like to frequent our vegetable garden. :-O

Yayyyyy for Summer!! Every day after work now I grab my book and head out to the deck to enjoy the sunshine :). Oh, by the way, I like to call the groundhogs around here Orville.

That’s a great shot of Walter sunbathing. (Perhaps he was getting his daily ration of Vitamin D too!)

Afraid I am pretty lax on Pintrest Jill. I could never quite figure it out but once in a blue moon I head over there, add some things and check out others’ wonderful entries. Thanks so much for checking though. I love it that you enjoy my photos. 🙂

Hahaha! We gave up on the vegetable garden a long time ago Cindy because the deer found their way in and left nothing in their wake. So far Walter, our resident Groundhog, has stayed out of the way though because he lives in his den and only comes out for lunch on the grass and sun bathing poolside 🙂

I’ll bet Orville keeps and eye on you basking on the deck and intent with your “nose in a book.” 🙂 And he would probably welcome a little action too.

Bare tummy up and facing the sky, he would surely be absorbing some of those sun’s rays. 🙂 I was so sure he was dead and felt so sorry since Walter has been around here for years. What a relief to see he was just sun bathing! 🙂

So Walter actually stretches out and relaxes around the pool, too? You could hire him as the pool boy for, you know in exchange for lounging around and soaking up your sun!

I’ve never had a groundhog stretch out like that. He must have felt truly safe. When I see them, they are eating my plants. That’s not a peaceful time.

Now if only Walter would wield the leaf skimming net or dive down to the bottom for sedement cleanup! 🙂

I would not be happy with a plant eating groundhog either. But Walter certainly does appear to feel safe and only emerges from his fenced enclosure to root around in the grass. 🙂

Grass I don’t care about (don’t tell my husband that). It’s the plants, flowers and shrubs that get me annoyed.

Maybe he would like me to read to him :).

That is so cute! I expect spending the winter hibernating really makes a guy crave some good, warm sunlight!

Glad Walter was not dead! How funny. Sighing in delight about summer’s arrival, except we would like some sun and not quite so much rain, please.

Walter looked dead to me too. You two soak up some of those natural vitamin D rays and enjoy the summer in your beautiful Virginia! Enjoyed meeting Walter!

Sun all day today! Life is good – well mostly. Good for soaking up the warmth anyway. 🙂

Walter has been around for years now (or maybe it’s a relative or offspring even since we have been here 27 years). The pool fence offers him protection and I suspect that’s why he is so relaxed about sunbathing. 🙂
