Forgotten Lanes and Gates on Rusted Hinges
May 23, 2016 by dorannrule

I made another stop to look around
and there were pictures to be found
of country charm, forgotten lanes,
mountain vistas in nature’s frames,
wild flowers and abandoned fences,
and gates on rusted hinges.

I have a refrain of “Don’t Fence Me In” spinning around in my head now!

Your eye found so much forgotten beauty, the little hinges and lanes that we often overlook.

I do hope you will get to this part of the world Andy and I know you and your wife would enjoy the Virginia countryside.

We really, really want to :). We just need life to slow down a little so that we can find the time.

Lovely views of a simpler time and place. Is the middle fence to stop you from running for the hills?

Hahaha Patti – we ran for the hills a long time ago. 🙂 But that fence you asked about goes a long way round encircling a 15 acre pasture reserved for the two horses we had when we first came to Camelot. Bill and I learned to ride. His horse’s name was Lucy, a big draft who had 10 babies before we got her. She was very old when she died (32) and my girl was Martini who lasted to 28. We took riding lessons early on, did some trail riding, and finally just enjoyed their retirement and ours.

That is a lot of fence! What wonderful memories you must have of Lucy and Martini.
