The Hairy Tale:
My sister-in-law, Millie, was a beautician for 40 years! One of her clients was a young girl whose hair was so long it was down to her waist. She was always sickly and her parents worried. Millie begged them to let her cut the girl’s hair and they finally agreed. Maybe you can guess what happened. The young lady grew strong and healthy and Millie was even more convinced that long hair drains strength and energy from the body.
My hair has never been longer than my collar but I got a haircut this week! It is very very short. I wanted to look like a “mature” Joan Baez! I brought a picture in to my beautician and asked her to perform a minor miracle. She did the best she could.
All of a sudden I felt strong!
I walked 5,000 steps yesterday! The Big Foot Boot is always nearby “just in case” but I like to think it is drooping and maybe even rusty for lack of use.
I am invincible! I am woman!
And then I remembered Millie’s Hairy Tale.
I think I will keep my hair cut short.

So funny to read this: as I wrote in a blog post last week, my hair wasn’t cut until I was six years old. I was sick a lot,and very thin. My grandmother told my mom that she needed to have my hair cut..that all my strength was going into growing my hair.. I think I was healthier once my hair was cut!

Where is the photo of the beautiful you??? I’ve let my gray hair grow as it wanted, and I’m not convinced it’s a pretty sight. Your photo might persuade me to go to the hairdresser again.

Funny Dorothy. You should send this article to your son. He absolutely is clear about me keeping my hair long…

Thanks Emmy! If I had hair like yours, I would keep it long for sure.

I rarely have the nerve to post selfies Anne and since I didn’t come out looking like Joan Baez, you may have a little wait for this one. 🙂 P.S. Your hair looks great….. “as is.”

Now that is truly ironic Dianna, and now that you mention it, I remember your blog about it. 🙂 Happy coincidence though.

My younger daughter’s hair is really long right now. She can’t get into the hairdresser for another two weeks. I will tell her she will feel great when it finally gets done!

I think I need to cut my hair. 😉 Hey, you get The Week, too? 🙂 It’s all the news I need and I skip a lot of the violent stuff all the same. Love the “It wasn’t all bad” and “Good week/Bad Week” and “Only in America” – crazy good fun. Doesn’t Baez look great?

Hmmmmmm…….. I was always a sickly little kid. My hair was way past my waist, until high school.. I wonder???

Maybe my nerves are shot. I’m afraid camera and mirror say the same thing, but there isn’t much I can do about it.

No selfie to show your resemblance to Joan? Bummer! My blog picture is a couple of years old. My ‘do is different and there’s probably an extra wrinkle or two but I also hate to have my picture taken. Never looks like the me I see in my mind.

Maybe there really was something to the story Millie told me!

O.K. – I am going to post a pic of my new haircut! Watch for the next blog Anne. Should I put it side by side with Baez?

Yes, my blog pic is a bit old. Fact is, I had let my hair go grey in it and now it’s back to my youthful color! I am thinking of letting it go grey again after seeing Joan Baez. Anyway, feeling guilty about not sharing my new short haircut so watch for it…… 😦

No. Your readers think you are beautiful, without comparison to any worldly icon.

No comparison of course! 🙂 Thanks Anne!

I’m so happy you shared a photo, Dor! It looks great! I guess your husband will think he’s got a new Valentine this year. 🙂

Good for you. Urban myths are great motivators! 🙂

Bill seems to think he has regained his childhood sweetheart even though he doesn’t believe in Valentine’s Day. Says it’s a Catholic holiday and he’s not Catholic (Saint Valentine you know). 🙂

Bill loves it because he says it always has two sides to every news story and is not slanted.

And I just needed that little shove from the Urban myth. 🙂
