Notes on a Virginia Winter
January 30, 2016 by dorannrule
It was a big snow and if the changed landscape wasn’t enough to remind me that it’s winter, well the bluejays and the little hungry birds at the feeder let me know in “no uncertain terms.”

Things are melting now, but there is still enough snow to make me marvel at an ordinary view that is still transformed with shadows punctuated by the rays of an emerging sun.

How beautiful winter can be.

Your views are so gorgeous, Dor! You don’t need paintings on the wall when you have scenes like this out your windows.

Thank you Eliza! In 26 years I have never tired of the views from these windows and I still think of them as gifts.

I love snow in winter. It keeps everything bright and fresh instead of dead and brown. Although it would be nice to be able to turnaround in our driveway again. Mounds of snow everywhere!!

In Western North Carolina, most of our snow has melted, at least in the lower elevations. It was certainly beautiful while it was here. Your shots are lovely.

Gorgeous photos Dor :). I need to get my act in gear and go through my photos from Costa Rica so I can show you their Blue Jays. They are a bigger bird and have a fancy feather on their heads, but otherwise they look the same.

Blue Jays are beautiful, but they can be mean little stinkers when it comes to the feeders; they don’t like to share!

Ditto Sheryl! I continue to be awed, especially when the weather changes and the same old views take on new life.

I think the birds love the view too since the deck is a good perching place (along with a good food source in bad weather). The jay is probably chunky because he’s fluffed up to deal with the cold. 🙂

YES! Get your Costa Rica photos out and start blogging so we can see the jays and all the other adventures you had!

I think my feeder is too small for the pretty jays, but I scatter seed around the deck and the ground so they can get their share, particularly in bad weather.

Thanks MJ! And note: I am on the Wheat Belly program (not the detox, but close) and after 5 days I am noticing distinct changes! Thanks again for sharing. 🙂

So many people gripe about winter, but I truly love the cold, brisk air, frosty windowpanes, and the beauty of snowfall. Your views were awe inspiring.

Ditto Cindy! I suppose if winter lasted too long I might join the gripers but we seem to be in a temperate zone where there is relief. Like it is supposed to be in the 60’s tomorrow!

It is beautiful–in YOUR pictures. It doesn’t look so good at the beach.
