Being a perfectly perfect person in my own eyes (if I don’t look in the mirror too often), I hate to admit I have certain FOIBLES.
Actually, there is only one real foible and the secret is now being shamefully announced through cyberspace.
Please do not judge this harshly but,
I DO NOT LIKE TO SHARE POPCORN!
IN FACT, I HATE SHARING POPCORN!
Perhaps this sounds selfish.
Yes, it really is selfish.
But consider this from my perfectly perfect point of view:
- Hands carry germs and if you are germaphobic (like moi),
- Sharing anything with germy hands involved is HORROR-FYING.
- I like to eat the WHOLE Small, Medium, or Large size bag of popcorn all by myself. I LOVE popcorn! I want it ALL!
- The noise created by strange fingers dipping in is maddening. I want to listen to the movie UNDISTURBED, preferably in solitary confinement (alone with my popcorn bag).
- Protecting territory or personal space (that popcorn bag) is essential to maintaining mental health. I read that somewhere and it certainly does apply to popcorn bag holders.
- And never mind “pass the popcorn please.” Courtesy does not help. You are still an invader, a noise maker, and undoubtedly carrying the flu virus!
- Coming for a visit? Now you know to stay clear of the One-Foibled-Woman when there is popcorn involved!. Ignore this warnng at your own peril.
- The popcorn is MINE! Why am I expected to share it and made to feel guilty if I don’t?
- But I ask you fellow bloggers, isn’t there something admirable about a woman with only one foible?
- And do you think blogging is beginning to take its toll on my perfectly perfect one-foibled life?
From http://www.vocabulary.com/dictionary/foible : Sometimes a foible helps make a person who they are, even if the foible, or weakness (“feeble” is a close relative), is a little odd. Synonyms for foible in a negative sense are “failing,” “shortcoming,” and in a more positive sense “quirk,” “eccentricity.” It can likewise be annoying or endearing. Most people have a foible, or idiosyncrasy, that stands out to others, but interestingly, a person rarely sees his or her own characteristic foible.
Okay, okay, I’ll bring my own pop corn. 🙂

That’s not a failing – that’s a strength! No sharing of popcorn allowed. I agree completely.

I agree — this must be your one foible, Dor! 🙂 What a fun and happy post. I’ve missed reading your spirited words! And you’ve made me think of that line from Mary Poppins. Do you remember? When she measures the children, and then measures herself. They each get a description, rather than a number. And Mary’s was, “Practically perfect in every way.” That’s what I say to my kids about myself, when we’re being silly! And I believe the very same about you. So go ahead and keep your popcorn to yourself!

No one ever gets chance to share ,popcorn ,crisps anyway dora. I savoir them all to myself so you are not on your own. Some would think us greedy however there is never enough in the packs today to share anyway are there.

Surely, non-sharing popcorn is a feeble foible and should be graciously accepted.

Bahaha! Like I said on Facebook this morning, you never fail to make me smile :). I agree about the popcorn issue – each person should have their own. When we go to the movies Mikey buys a large popcorn which is supposed to be for all of us, but it’s usually gone (into his belly) before the movie even starts! I think I will learn from your wisdom and get my own bag next time.

Sharing popcorn…yuck! You’re putting your fingers to your lips then sticking said fingers back into the bowl…no way!

If that’s all you have (as a foible) you’re good. If my husband and I share a bag that means I get 3 kernels as his hands are bigger and faster than mine. His penance for this horrendous sin is that he must take me out to dinner afterward!

BTW my foible is outing double-dippers! I share your feelings about germs.

I’m a fellow popcorn junky, or at least I use to be before the Paleo lifestyle, it’s one of the things I miss the most! However, I don’t go to the movies much, so…I allow myself the occasional cheat (maybe once every two or three months if I’m lucky), and when I do, I’m like you, but…my hubby never eats more than a handful so, of course, I share with him. He buys it for me after all. 🙂

I try really hard to avoid popcorn but it calls to me from the pantry. Maybe I should empty the pantry? But then it would call to me from the store. Congrats on your Paleo lifestyle. I believe in it but haven’t made the transition yet.

Just a tip; if you start with small changes like omitting sugar from your diet and substituting stevia for example, it makes it easier. That’s how I started and then I switched from using milk to almond or coconut milk and so on. Also, and most importantly, get rid of all oils in your house except olive oil and coconut oil. These simple things will go a long way in improving your health and making you feel better!

Great advice Kimberly! I am already down to coconut oil and olie oil. I never drink milk. Sugar is the culprit and today’s my birthday. Sugar reigns. 🙂

LOL. Within the range of possible foibles, this one sounds pretty minor. If you have just one foible, this is the one to have. 🙂

I feel very fortunate but sorry for anyone near my bowl who craves popcorn. 🙂

Yes Patti, but hopefully now that everyone knows my little secret, the “lots” will all be reserved and untouchable. 🙂

A flavorful foible… I don’t blame you for keeping the popcorn for yourself! Makes me think of today’s custom of ‘sharing desserts in restaurants – where that that scrumptious dark chocolate torte with caramel and strawberries comes served with four forks. Not. I’ll have my own or not at all. So enjoy your popcorn… and I’ll enjoy mine. 🙂
