It was a rainy day the day before we left for a European river cruise called The Highlights of Germany. I was packed, ready, and gazing out the window when four boy turkeys sitting on the fence began spreading their wings in a show for a bevy of delicate females.
They evidently did not make much of an impression because the girls just walked on by.
Ah well! I could almost hear the guys sigh as they watched opportunity passing.
But then dinner called and they were happily distracted.
And that reminded me of a song called Standing on the Corner (watchin’ all the girls go by). I loved the Dean Martin rendition.
From en.wikipedia.org:
“Standing on the Corner is a popular song written by Frank Loesser and published in 1956. It was introduced by Shorty Long, Alan Gilbert, John Henson, and Roy Lazarus in the Broadway musical, The Most Happy Fella.
Thanks for the warm welcome home Jill and for thinking of me. It was a fantastic trip… and after about a year of resting I will be ready to go again. 🙂
Welcome back to the roller coaster on the net Dora. Looking forward to seeing some of those photo’s from your trip. That song ‘ Watching all the girls go by’ I remember so well, I think Tommy Steele sang it also. It always amused me to see some of the young teenagers standing around a lamp post watching all the girls go by. The girls strutting past them deliberately with flashing eyes, then the boys would slowly follow them giving them the wolf whistles. Those were the days !!!
Just came back from Texas, which wasn’t quite as far as Germany!
Still hoping to come out your way, and enjoy the views of Virginia that I have never experienced before. I am mpsspaid@cox.net
I was just thinking about you yesterday, Dor. I hope you had a fantastic trip. Great photo!

Oh, I remember this song so well. Dean Martin, he was one of a kind, wasn’t he? Fitting song for those Tom Turkeys. 😉

Love Dino! I’ve noticed how most hen turkeys are unimpressed by the antics of the toms – it is rather comical!

I haven’t heard a wolf whistle in many a year Rita. Do they still do that? 🙂

I remember that song from early childhood. I think mum used to sing it sometimes around the house.
