Thanks for asking Cindy! The line is indeed from the opening song of the musical film, Oklahoma, entitled “Oh What a Beautiful Morning”. I should have included that info in the post. Here are the beginning lyrics: “There’s a bright golden haze on the meadow, There’s a bright golden haze on the meadow, The corn is as high as an elephant’s eye, An’ it looks like its climbin’ clear up to the sky. Chorus: Oh what a beautiful morning, Oh what a beautiful day, I’ve got a wonderful feeling, Everything’s going my way.” Every time I see the big corn stalks on our Virginia farms I hum that song. 🙂
Oh what a beautiful morning, oh what a beautiful day….now you’ve got me singing all the songs from Oklahoma and I’ll probably be singing them all day long. Great shots, by the way. And yep, the corn is as high as an elephant’s eye here too. And mighty tasty as well!! 😉
I know. That song is so catchy as are the others from Oklahoma. I am always surprised at the folks who don’t immediately recognize old songs from my youth. Reminds me of how age is creeping/speeding along. 🙂
Beautiful!

I’m laughing, Dor. I told a friend about our corn and she, being Australian, asked if it was as high as an elephant’s thigh. HIgher, I said.

Reminds me of when we were kids, we’d run in the corn rows – I loved that enclosed feeling and the warm smell of the corn. Summer memories! 🙂

I never ran in a corn row, but did climb into an avocado tree when I was a kid. 🙂

Oh, a grand idea Mary. I would add a tomato/mayo sandwich too though. 🙂 There’s something to be said for summer’s bounty.
