Just look at my parsley and basil! They were only little guys when I bought them at Herman’s Produce this Spring.
Yes! Herman’s has a wonderful little nursery too!
The herbs are so lush and healthy, I think of them as ornamental landscape additions that can be harvested for food and health.
Talk about multi-tasking!
And would you believe I have harvested them for drying at least three times?
And of course, Herman’s Produce is known for (guess what?) it’s produce too!
They feature fresh-from-the-farm tomatoes –
and everything else that looks and tastes like Summer!
And the rumor is a local green house grower
is growing veggies exclusively for Herman’s!
We are already eagerly awaiting December
for tomatoes that will taste as good as Summer!
Imagine a tomato and mayo sandwich for Xmas?
Yummmm.
Wow! Herman’s got a great place, Dor. I’m salivating over that pot of green beans! YUM!

Everything looks yummy! My parsley and basil are doing well this year too. Next year I am going to try putting them in a planter on our patio so they are more convenient. They are very attractive and maybe with a trailing flowering plant will look right in place.

We’ve been Herman’s fans for a long time and the shop just keeps getting better! We buy our Christmas trees there, too. Thanks for giving them such a nice ‘shout-out’, Dor!

I love the look of those green beans. I was a bad gardener this year, and while I bought basil, and potted it, I must have underwatered, as it passed away. Yours looks yummy and gorgeous!

I love fresh herbs – such a night-and-day difference between store bought. Do you make pesto?

Thanks Jill. Herman’s really is a great place and we are so lucky to have it here. 🙂

This is the first year I tried parsley in a pot. It works! And I love your idea of adding the trailing flowering plant too.

Thanks Cathy! I always heard good things about Herman’s from my friend, Mary Beth, but never really got started there until last summer. It’s on my favorites list now for sure.

I usually kill plants (even if they are plastic) but not the ones I find at Herman’s. They seem to ignore my stupidity and keep on thriving. Amazing thing. 🙂

You can say that again Margie. I have tried other such places but Herman’s is the real thing – a treat to be sure.

Hahaha! You make me laugh Anne but Thank you! If Herman’s looks like a work of art, it’s the natural veggies and herbs that give it color… and the Herman’s staff who make sure we see everything at peak goodness. 🙂

No, but I should. I make spaghetti sauce though. It takes all day to simmer with herbs and spices, etc. 🙂 I am a self proclaimed Gourmet Chef Imposter.

Fresh produce in December is just wrong. I have a pot of Basil that is going great guns – how do you preserve it?

I have a little collection of mesh/screened toppers you are supposed to put on top of frying pans to avoid grease splatter. I fill each one with the cut basil leaves or parsley, etc., set them in warm dry areas of the house (like there is one on top of the frig) and allow them to dry. When a batch is dry and crumbly I put it in a plastic zip lock bag with label, punch the air out and voila! The bag usually lasts a whole year.

Nothing says Summer like a tomato & mayo sandwich. I think we lived on them as kids.

Dor … All those gorgeous plants and vegetables make my mouth water. They also remind me of when I lived in the country and we grew some of our own produce. Right now, I’m hankering for a BLT. Hmmm! 😉

I loved seeing your herbs and Herman’s as well!
I don’t dry basil – I don’t think it turns out all that good. I put it through the food processor with some olive oil, then freeze it in a flat think sheet in a Ziplock bag (quarter size). When I’m cooking soups and stuff, I break off chunks and add it in at the end. It keeps its color and taste and really perks up a homemade soup.

Your plants look perfectly pleased where they’ve been placed. Herman’s Produce has a very well-kept display.

Thanks for noticing how happy the plants were Patti. We had the house power washed and the basil looked extremely distressed. I cut her back and watered and which seems to have helped but that happy thick mound is now a taller scraggly one. Sigh.
