- I paid the locker fee for a whole year at the YMCA. Now the question is, will I go? And/or, will I go regularly?
- Also signed up for a Beginner’s Crochet class at our local Stitchery

Actually, I know how to crochet but unable to read a pattern, join new skeins to old ones, or end a thing so it doesn’t unravel. Some folks have received Dor’s scarves that are undoubtedly unraveled by now. And apologies if your feet are sticking through that afghan I sent last Christmas!
It was the same with a long ago Beginner’s Typing Class when I was already typing fast but had no idea how to set margins. Good thing WordPress sets the margins for us!
Is this a personal personality flaw or what? How about playing the flute in high school and making First Chair after memorizing Flight of the Bumble Bee while never learning to read music?
But more randomly:
- We had dinner out with good friends (the same good friends) twice this week (or was it thrice?). It is always amazing to find we never run out of things to talk about.
- The grounds around the house are lovely again, filled with the hope of beauteous blossoms and neatly manicured beds. Everything is mulched, trimmed and awaiting the encroaching weeds of summer and deer denuding. Spring never fails to elicit hope in my heart and oh, Virginia is truly gorgeous this time of year – like the fancy icing on a wedding cake.
There was a storm brewing today though. I am afraid of thunder storms so managed to beat it home in time but it didn’t thunder too much after all. Otherwise, there is always the closet for shaking in privacy and missing old dog, Rozie. Rozie used to be so frightened of storms that her teeth would literally chatter. I have never heard of a dog’s teeth chattering, have you?
It IS a beautiful time of year!
My mom taught me to crochet when I was a little girl, sitting on the (wide) arm of her easy chair.
Thunderstorms make me uneasy, too. My heart aches for you every time you mention Rozie.

That first photo is gawgess Dor! And this just, “How about playing the flute in high school and making First Chair after memorizing Flight of the Bumble Bee while never learning to read music?” just means you have relative pitch. My daughter can do this too. It is a rare gift.

Nawwww! I considered it just faking! Really.

Thanks Dianna – especially the part about Rozie. I know now how actors and actresses can cry for a part, because all I have to do is think of Rozie’s last day and the tears begin.

At 3:30 am this morning there was a crack of thunder so loud that I woke up out of a dead sleep and jumped up in bed. After that, nothing but rain. Come on Mother Nature, if you’re going to wake me up you may as well give me a good storm to watch :). I love storms! I also used to love crocheting and made tons of blankets and clothes for my boys when they were babies. Sometimes I miss it, but then technology came into my life and took over LOL.

I have a feeling this evening’s rain has those weeds encroaching even more. I can hear them growing! Pretty landscape surrounding you. I just love color! Good for you taking the crochet class. Seeing all the pretty yarns and such, I think about knitting again–but it’s been so long, I don’t even remember how to start.

My teeth chatter too during thunderstorms. I’m not a fan at all, Dor. Especially when they hit at 2:00 a.m. on a work night. 😦
I’d love to learn how to crochet. My grandmother wanted to teach me, when I was young, but I wasn’t interested.

Laughed out loud at your apologies about feet sticking out of the afghan. 🙂 Spring is here ~ finally ~ and little green shoots are pushing through all around, the birds are singing and it’s my favorite!
I took piano lessons for 7 years; I can find middle C but I play by ear. Fake it till you make it, baby! 🙂 MJ

Do you have blossoms? *so jealous* Our grass has greened up and the early daffodils are strutting their stuff but the trees are still holding back. Every week they tell us this is the week. Hasn’t happened yet. I used to crochet but I don’t have patience for it anymore. I do have some beautiful doily type things my mother made like 50 years ago. Treasures.

Technology – the elephant in the room! Wish you were here to teach me how to crochet something that would hold together! And of course you would love storms. Ax murderers always love bad weather. 🙂

“I can hear them growing” too Patti (the weeds), but in my sublime ignorance, I always think I can control the onslaught. 🙂

I was interested when I was young (in crochet), but only the physical part – the busy hands. I had no interest in the details s to begin again, maybe I will learn the right way. 🙂

Yes, the trees are blossoming here – especially the fruit trees – and my favorites (the redbuds) are just showing their marvelous pink blooms. Everything is on the verge of peak performance and I do love it. I used to prefer autumn but have reversed to spring! There are only 3 sessions of the beginner’s crochet class so I can handle that and maybe learn to read patterns and tie things off so they don’t unravel. They say crochet is popular again, maybe because it is so “retro.” 🙂

Hi Dora, Well I never learnt how to crochet but did plenty of knitting which I did right up to when I had my children ( 2 boys) this meant that every time I knitted a jumper for my hubby ,it was one each for the boys as well, until they were men and one being 6ft 6 Then I fell out with knitting altogether. I also am very nervous of thunderstorms and well remember my poor dog Ben was petrified and used to shake with fear. So whenever there is a thunderstorm now I think of him.

I don’t know what it is about overcast skies, but I love them. Maybe because it’s because I used to live in Central New York and, I believe, they had about 80 percent cloud cover.
Beautiful photo of the cardinals that looks like they’re kissing. It’s been years since I crocheted. My Mom always used to crochet slipper socks for us. I might have to learn how soon. 😉
