We haven’t seen the worst of winter here in Virginia but our 26 year old Rhododendron knows just how to cope. When the weather turns nasty she squeezes all her leaves into narrow tubes to hold in any life giving warmth. And on days of light and sunshine she opens her leaves and shows off an impressive array of healthy buds. She is obviously patiently waiting for spring, and every time I pass by I am reminded that each season has its glories.
How fascinating. Rhod’s are so gorgeous and do not grow at The Holler~

How wonderfully clever! (I think we sorta bunch up when we go out in the cold, too!)

Today our rhodies are covered with 8 inches of snow. Spring? Soon?

I miss seeing Rhododendrons – had many where we lived in Maine. Love them ~

I try to be patient waiting for spring, it isn’t always easy however! I’ll take a page from Rhodie’s book and curl up on the couch when it is really cold!

The couch is definitely a lovely place to wait for spring! 🙂

It’s true! Curling up upon oneself is a natural instinct I think for humans too.

I am at reenactments and historic shows and sidetracked by having to catch up on a book club assignment for our meeting next week. I will NOT get bored with your book Rita! I just know it. Hugs ~Dor.

A perfect example of nature teaching us a good lesson in survival! My three rhodies finally gave up the ghost a few years ago. They had been eaten from underneath by voles and I couldn’t save them.

We have voles here too but the Rhodie must be in a special place to have escaped them. But maybe they are the reason we lost our beautiful hydrangea years ago.

Funny to see your rhododendron while I am looking at snow on the roofs of my neighborhood townhomes. Spring is a distant thought today.

Kind of reminds me of how I react toward my children, depending on their behavior!

Having completely overdressed this week for our mild winter, I can only say our winter has been just that…mild. Only 3 fires in the fireplace for us this year compared to a month of fires at this time last year.
