Long ago, when Bill and I were young dreamers, he said, “One of these days in our lifetimes, we will put a man on the moon.”
I thought he was crazy or maybe a genius, but of course his prediction came true. Even so, with all our technological advances, I have never been able to snap a good photograph of the moon.
Last year all photos were taken with my little cell phone, but moonshots were immediately deleted because they were tiny unrecognizable spots of light.
Then Bill gave me a new camera “pal” for my birthday. It did take impressively clear pictures but still refused to enlarge the moon.
For Christmas he gave me a new lens for the new camera – a zoom lens!
And a blue moon was rising.
This photo is the first moonshot I have ever revealed.
It may not match the many other professional closeups of our moon, but it reminds me of that dreamy night so long ago.
It is beautiful!! You are becoming a professional :). Well done!

Aw….that’s a great picture. I’ve found moon pictures to be nearly impossible. I love the memory that it brings back to you!

Thanks so much Dianna. The challenge is to take ever clearer shots, but this one will always be “the best” for all those “soppy” reasons. 🙂

Thanks Cindy! It’s a good start but I wonder if the camera will ever stop making me nervous. 🙂

You dreamers, you! Nice shot – love the clouds in it.

Don’t be nervous. Just have fun with it :). It’s digital, so it’s not like you’re going to waste film or money if a shot is not exactly what you wanted. There are no right or wrong photos anyway. It’s an expression of creativity!

Awe ! How romantic. Bill certainly intended you to fly to the moon. Good shot Dora !

Looks nice. It is hard to balance the brightness of the moon’s light and still get clouds and sky of night.

Hye, we were looking at the same moon, just miles away. May all your blue moons be as beautiful.

I think that looks pretty good! I’ve been trying moon shots also and none of mine are as good as that.
We’re all dreamers at some point – the trick is to not lot it die. Easier said than done unfortunately.

Aw, I love your sweet sentiment here. And you ‘done good!’ I have a hard time capturing the moon in my photos too, even with my fancy camera and its zoom lens. My shots always look fuzzy and don’t look nearly as magnificent as the moon actually was when I took its photo. For me, it’s hard to hold the camera still for a night shot and that slow shutter speed demands it. So I’m anxious to try my Christmas gift — a tripod — to shoot the next ‘over the moon’ shot. Just waiting for a pretty one to show up. And keeping my fingers crossed that I can get a nice picture.

Ooooh! A tripod! Now you are a true professional. 🙂 Let me know how that works o.k.?

I predict that some day blogger friends will be meeting on the moon! Maybe it could even be a “halfway” point to somewhere else in space. 🙂

Bless Bill for his forward thinking about space and for the upgrades to your camera. What camera and zoom lens do you have. I have a Nikon Coolpix P510 and don’t think I’ve gotten a great moon shot from it. Is your camera a smaller one? I’m also looking into that for a future trip we plan to Italy.

Ha! A professional, I am not! But I will let you know how it works for those moon shots, if I ever get one. 😉

Great picture! Your comment about the difficulties I had getting pictures of the moon–and stormy nights–to illustrate posts at A Hundred Years Ago. High quality moon pictures are few and far between.

You did well, very well capturing it’s craters, shadows and silvery light.
You remind me Rick took one early in November that he is especially proud of. It is hard to take, at least that’s what Rick tells me.

Oh Dor, what a wonderful post! Makes me think of the movie, “It’s a Wonderful Life.” I know you know that song, “…and danced by the light of the moon.” And how they talked about lassoing the moon and bringing it down — I can just picture you and your husband dreaming and talking about the endless possibilities — and how relatable is this line, “I thought he was crazy or maybe a genius.”? Love it! You are such and appreciative soul, my friend. I wish you many happy days, and nights, enjoying your new camera and the special bond you have with your husband.

A sweetly romantic photo, Dor. It’s funny the difference a lens can make. BH’s brother is a big-time photographer and I was so surprised to learn that the lenses cost so much more than the camera. Anyway, I love this shot.

We have Southern Photo here. They sell cameras, produce photos and have camera lessons. I went on a shoot with them to a wildlife refuge. It was cool. Enjoy, Dora. 😉
