After I have finished reading a book, I forget it. Well, most times. Especially if it is fiction. The upside of this is I can read the same book several times and always think it’s new.
After a week in my life is gone, I forget it. Well, most times. Especially if I am tired out and sleeping off a lot of excitement.
Today, Friday, I am staring at a blank page. Can we call a backlit white space on a computer screen a “page”?
What did I do since last Friday that would warrant remembering? And what could possibly interest my blogger family out there?
Lemme know if any of these “Randoms” leave you breathless o.k.?
- I made a cake for an upcoming block party but my grandgirls ate it.
- I made a second cake for the same upcoming block party. Same cake. Same party. It escaped unscathed as it is hidden now in a spare bedroom.
- Our son, three granddaughters, and a possum came for a visit so I spent one whole day making beds and preparing advance meals. No problem. Excitement mounted. The beds were not for the possum although one grandgirl wanted to let him in. This was Mr. Possum’s second visit! Can he be domesticated?
- We talked, laughed, got caught up, played scrabble, watched funny movies and made our traditional grocery store Runs for Survival. Each college girl gets a canvas shopping bag she can fill to the brim (and over the brim) with snacks, goodies, and some real food for her dorm room. It used to be a $5 run to the Dollar Store but times have changed haven’t they?
- Soon, well fed and stocked with provisions, our son and granddaughters left. I spent another whole day making beds and my own Survival Run to restock pantry and refrigerator. The possum returned once but seemed to know the food was gone, family time was over and he hasn’t come back.
- Another day was spent well, sleeping – like falling asleep between meals and before bedtime, and once standing up at the sink. How exciting can you get?
- I added three pages to a real book I am writing, so I am three pages past the Introduction. This is a definite sign of recovery. I started writing the book last spring.
Next, you will be quizzed on this report.
Can you remember anything about my Friday Randoms?
It sounds like a pretty good week to me, Dor! What I always remember about your Friday Random posts is, they make me smile. Happy Weekend!

LOL, Dor, you do lead an exciting (or perhaps exhausting) life! Guests, as much as we love them, are tiring because we try to pack as much as we can into the allotted time. You are such a great Grandma, the bags you treat them to will be part of their fond memories of you in the years to come, along with the fun and the laughter. Such blessings!
Did you really fall asleep on your feet? That could be dangerous! Find a sofa next time! 😉

🙂 Dor. I think I just might remember the possum.

Wow, you’ve been busy! No wonder you’re so tired. The possum is like the dogs – if there’s no food around, why bother?
Glad you’ve made some progress on the book. Anything is better than nothing.

Thanks Nancy. Progress is good and then sleeping. 🙂

There was a possum a long time ago who lived in our attic. I think you may be remembering him. This one is new… maybe an offspring. 🙂

Bwahahaha! A sofa would have put me in a coma Eliza! Dozing at the sink works as long a I’m leaning on it. 🙂 Glad you see the merit in the Survival Bags and I hope you are right about creating memories. Thanks for your great thoughts. 🙂

I like the first 2 paragraphs which reminded me of zoning out on Christmas Hallmark movies. My husband noticed I was watching the same ones more than once; I told him I missed some parts of the movies and had to watch them again. Now I know other grandmothers have some busy, exciting and tiring days as I do!

You are not alone Shofar! I zoned out on Christmas Hallmark movies too. 🙂

I’m with you, Dor. As soon as I’m done with something, I check it off my list and forget it. Hooray, but the list is growing longer on the other end. Now…for next Friday….

There is a book loan room at my gym. I have more often than I’d like to admit, borrowed the same book only to end up at a doctor’s office with a book I had already read. Sometimes I don’t remember the story but if there is a long wait you can be I will remember every detail in the book! Sounds like it was a great visit. When my 9 year old granddaughters come to visit, we have GrammyKate breaks while they go do something fun with Gramps while I nap. After they leave I swear I sleep for 2 days straight. We try to fit in so much because they only come once a year.

I laughed out loud at this, “I made a cake for an upcoming block party but my grandgirls ate it.” This is SO My house! 🙂 That possum knows a good thing when he sees it.
sounds like a fun week — and, like you, I sometimes struggle with the random posts – till I consider all the inane things that take up my time and, pretty soon, a post is born 🙂
Cheers! MJ

Well, you surely had a random week, I’ll give you that. Family visits are good but those possum visits? Not so much. We have them in our yard often and one summer night when I couldn’t sleep, one scared the living daylights out of me when it strolled across our deck right outside the open screen door. Not a welcome visitor. Hey, you wrote three whole pages in your book? I’m impressed. I started one eons ago and I’ve written a grand total of zero in the last several months. So, your random week was pretty eventful actually, even if there was a lot of sleeping involved. 😉

Now this was an exciting week Dorann! Seems like sleep was following you around, but boy did you give it a run for all it’s worth – I remembered the possum and your sons visit.

Just keep writing and the book will formulate. 😉

Let’s see. I have total recall. The possum ate the cake intended for the block party and wanted to keep the grandkids as a pet. Err … no! I did enjoy your week, Dor. Sounds like fun even if you did have to bake two cakes. Smart – hiding the 2nd one. 😉

You were close Judy! Actually the kids wanted to eat the 2nd cake but the possum got to it first.

Sleep is still “following me around” Mary. Could it be age related? 🙂

I know if we sit still long enough, the random events of a week can turn out to be fairly interesting – even between long winter naps! Since we are now agreed we are cyberspace sisters, we need to be writing our books at approximately the same time. Get busy Cincy! You can catch up to my Page 3. I know it. 🙂

You’ve got it MJ! If we just sit still and think a bit, the randoms simply appear – inane as they may be. 🙂

That is so the way of it Kate – fitting everything special in because the family is so seldom together in one place, and then sleeping it off for days afterward. As for re-reading forgotten books, the pattern continues here too. Now I find myself re-buying diet books I have already read and tried! It’s that time of year and I think I need a “loan room” just for diet books. 🙂

I am so glad to see you again Barb! I think when our lists are too long to check off and forget, it’s time to throw the lists away. And just live for the moment! 🙂

We do the same thing with movies. We may have a sense of having watched it, but it’s all new until a scene is over, and the, “Oh, yeah, now I remember.” 🙂

Nothing I could write could ever top Judy’s comment. I laughed out loud! Sounds like a perfectly lovely week in the “days of Dor’s life.” Possum and all. XXX

I have a problem with reading comprehension. I’ve been reading a book on writing every night before bed. Each night I try to figure out where I left off the previous night…I was going to suggest the opossum made off with your feeder, but he should have been napping during the day.

I can understand the confusion about where you left off reading and writing book – or can I? The opossum is a likely candidate for stealing the feeder but you are right, I think they are nocturnal. I am afraid this mystery will not be solved.
