Driving home yesterday I was involuntarily stopped short in order to rub my eyes.
There was a gathering of grazing critters.
This in itself is not unusual when you live in the country.
Cattle is practically an industry here and yes, there was a cow in the mix.
However, this particular collection of grazers seemed odd.
I got out of the car with Pal, my original trusty camera embedded in my cell phone.
Could these be alien creatures sent down from Planet X to confuse local motorists?
Can anyone identify the spotted ones?
I must say they were curious and friendly enough.
They allowed me to snap pictures as
they returned to their preoccupation with grass.
Then I was on my way home still wondering.
Were they an odd variety of cow? Miniature horses?
Donkeys?
I am still undecided. How about you?
Note: A friend of mine has a friend-vet, who has identified the alien creatures as donkeys! Take a look at some of these stories.

idk — that’s text talk for “I don’t know” but you probably already know that…just saw this yesterday on my phone in reply to a question…and it popped into my head to use on your post. 🙂 We have a Shetland pony farm not far away, but these don’t look like Shetlands.

Ha ha! I love the guy in the middle, Dor! I think they’re a mix. Hey, are you getting snow today?

Another mystery of life! I have no idea but that makes as much sense as I can come up with Rita. 🙂

Neither. They just ate grass and looked at me as if to say, “So, what are YOU looking at anyway?”

A mix Jill? Of what? And yep, we got snow for about 6 hours today. I am guessing three inches and the giant snowflakes were very beautiful. Maybe more tomorrow. I always get ridiculously excited over the first snowfall. How about you?

Great response Nancy! I like that “interspecies intimacy” theory. Blahahaha! 🙂

Oh no – now there are abbreviations in “text talk.” I just got used to the FB dictionary my granddaughter made for me when they stopped using the codes! As for the alien critters – I like the “interspecies intimacy” theory – but a cow and a donkey? 🙂

I’m pretty sure the gray one is a donkey….the spotted one might be, too, but who knows??? IDK!
Happy Thanksgiving!

I wonder if there is a difference between a jackass and a burro. ? 🙂

“IDK” either…. Donkeys are usually cuter aren’t they?

Oh good… I am leaning toward “burro” but not sure what that really means either.

P.S. HAPPY THANKSGIVING back Laura! I keep forgetting that since we are “eating out” tomorrow and I don’t have to cook. Hurrah! 🙂

I wondered if they were mules but the spotted one really looks like it has a cows body doesn’t it and a mule has more of a horse like body.

Might need an intelligence test for that–for the animal, that is!

Donkey, pony, cow…you name it! They’re pretty cool.
Oh yes, the first snow is exciting, but only if it happens on the weekend. If it’s a work day, I don’t want any part of it. I hope you’ll take some pictures.
Happy Thanksgiving!

I was 21 before I saw my first snow and guess I have never gotten over it! No matter when or how little or how much I feel like a little kid who wants to build a snowman. Pictures en route…. 🙂

Oh, dear, poor little misfits. Here’s my two cents: The gray is definitely a burro (or donkey, same thing). The spotted ones I bet are crosses between a pinto pony & probably that gray burro. Horse and donkey crosses create mules, which are sterile. Donkeys have risen in popularity around here because, being herd animals, they will protect their pasture companions – sheep, llamas, etc. from coyotes, which we have a lot of. Many people keep them – I think they are so sweet-looking – it’s the white eyeliner!

I would say they are the product of a lot of genetic mixing.

Great response Eliza. I suspect you are on the right track about the mixed genes in this lot, as they are an integral part of a fluctuating herd of cattle (in and out groups on the farm). The genetic misfits are probably donkeys on guard. 🙂

Waiting for one more reply from an expert, but I like Eliza’s answer… probably the spotted ones are “donkeys” there to guard the cattle herds.

Ok, they may be donkeys (I’ll accept your friend’s word for it) but what planet did they come from? 😉
