A Week of Random Ramblings
One night Bill and I went to see Wuthering Heights performed at our local university theater of the arts. Occasionally we get out at night like that. I should have taken “night” pictures but forgot in the excitement over seeing city lights and other real people.
On Wednesday we drove to Harrisonburg to take our grandgirl out for lunch and a stop at Costco! At her suggestion, we dined at Jack’s local hamburger joint where oddly enough, that’s all Jack served – hamburgers.
Bill ordered a plain one in spite of a wide variety of options including a “Peanut Butter Burger!” And Kendall and I got Cream Cheese and Jalapeno Jelly Burgers! Costco is always fun too but seems Enormous to us country bumpkins.
Thursday was dedicated to Getting-Ready-for-Winter.
At our house that means moving out summer clothes and moving in winter. Somehow sandals don’t work well anymore in these cooler Fall temps. But I am loathe to store away the new sparkly ones that make my feet look 17 years old. The object today was to accommodate cooler weather, but the object remained elusive and the sandals still sparkle in the closet.
I did manage to go Monday and Friday to the gym! And now increasing “footage” (walking), though nowhere near goal. Today, due to the energy giving qualities of a new vitamin, and the usual self imposed mental delusion that I am an energetic 17 year old, I set out in earnest. Never made it to the gym, but…..
Hoping to find apples, there was a farmer’s market at the Virginia Horse Center. No apples, but lots of honey! Honey is my next recommendation for hoarding. And as long as I was there, I did a little walking around the horse center and watched young people jumping things and a very graceful horse and buggy team. Lovely!
I have determined that walking is a good thing. You never know what you will stumble on.
Late as usual but this was a week of random ramblings gone by and it was a good week after all.
I smiled! You change out seasonal clothes like I do, keeping a few of the favs on hand just in case there is an unseasonal day. Of course there never is but there might be!

You’re right Kate. Those sandals are doomed to collect dust but I just can’t bury them away in the pile of summer shoes. 🙂

I am not above wearing the Michigan fall uniform: Shorts, a tee shirt & hoodie AND sandals 🙂 I change out my seasonal stuff, too, but since I’m usually warmer than Hubbs, and since he likes to turn the heat on when the temps drop to – oh – 70 – I keep the tank tops around for my own survival 🙂
Happy Sunday!

Kudos emjay! I can appreciate your fall uniform which sounds like it’s a combination of Florida and Michigan. You may be setting a trend! 🙂 Happy Sunday to you too 🙂

I always enjoy your Random Ramblings, Dor, and for some reason particularly these. There is no finer season for walking than autumn and I’m glad you enjoyed your stroll around the horse center. Sounds heavenly.

Hey, Dor; no playing favorite bloggers! I’m jealous that you never invited ME o take that walk with you. ‘Better wait until I’m off the crutches. Broken ankle and romps in horse country don’t go together to well.

Those self-imposed mental “delusions” can work the best of all. After all, the mind never ages unless we let it. The body, on the other hand… Guess what! I wore sandals yesterday. It’s been near 80 a couple of days this week and I don’t want to put those sandals away a moment too soon. Maybe you shouldn’t either…way down there in Virginia!

Rain for tomorrow – no sandals. But I will think of you and get ready to bask in the next bit of sunshine for as long as it lasts. 🙂

Oooooh! I didn’t think you needed an invitation. I hope you are doing well with the broken ankle Ronnie. I know how that is and how happy you will be when you can walk normally again. Virginia horse country is awaiting your arrival for a romp! Me too. I’ll watch. 🙂

I love keeping you company on your ramblings. There’s some really professional blogs out there and then there’s the rest of us, who blog where and what we live. I have a bunch of pen pals and I enjoy visiting with them all.
I got some apples at the farmer’s market this weekend too and they are so much better than what I get at the store. Yum, yum. And those burgers sounded good too.
Loved you comment about the sandals making you feel 17-years-old again. That’s the greatest reason I’ve heard for wearing sandals!

Real people, huh? Sounds like a fun time. I need some of those magic sandals. Oh, you said only your feet look 17. Good for you getting out and about, walking, and getting to see your granddaughter.

Here are my random comments to your fun random post. Ooo, you have sparkly sandals too? Mine are still out. I did put some summer things away but the sandals stay out until the last possible moment (maybe when the snow starts to fly). Judging from the photos, the horse center must have been a lovely place to plunk down and watch all the activities. Oh, and that peanut butter hamburger thing? I’ve tasted one at a burger joint in Cincinnati — actually it was a peanut butter, grape jelly, and banana hamburger. Son-in-law loved it, me…not so much. I did like my Hawaiian burger there though. One more thought – we used to shop at Costco when we lived in the ‘burbs. Now it just overwhelms me so I stay away. Yes, I’m proud to admit I’m a country bumpkin too. 😉

One of my favorite stores, Costco – just love walking around the place especially just before lunch and dinner times (trying out the samples)! Laughed about your sandals and here’s to those missed gym times, LOL ~ lovely photograph at the end of your post.

Strolling around looking at and taking pictures of interesting things beats the gym any day in my opinion. 🙂

Your Random Reply to my Random Rambling is priceless Cindy! Maybe I will now keep my sparkly sandals available until the first snow. And yes, the horse center is a great place to go for new perspectives. I love it when there is a big dog show in the arena and some of their horse auctions and competitions are fascinating too. I’m glad we are both “country bumpkins” my friend, but WHAT pray tell, is a Hawaiian burger????

Gordo’s Pub and Grill in Cincinnati – that’s where I ate an Hawaiian burger with roasted pineapple, lettuce, tomato, onion, cucumber, mayonnaise, bbq sauce, and American cheese. Huge and delish! ww.gordospub.com/norwood/gourmet_burgers.html

That burger sounds irresistible! Thanks for the info on where to get it but going to Cincinnati to increase cholesterol may not be such a good idea.:)

I must admit I prefer the traditional burger fixin’s Eliza. And yes, I do live in horse country. In fact, I live in a subdivision that was created for equine activities. Bill and I once had two horses and we did a bit of trail riding. The horses eventually retired and lived with us to ripe old ages in happy grazing. When they finally gave up life, Martini was 28 and Lucy was 32!

I am impressed Eunice. You are making real headway and getting ready for winter. I’m afraid the cold winds will blow snow this way before I really get down to it.

Good long lives, well cared for, I’m sure. There are four horses up the road that we visit, but I’ve not ridden much in my life, probably not since college. Wow, it has been a while 😉

I like to think about going riding, but then swinging that leg over to saddle up might preclude the actuality. 😦 It’s satisfying enough to stop and visit neighbor horses. 🙂
