There is a stream running clear nearby
along a roadway meandering and affable
sometimes rising in a heavy rain
leaving the road impassable.
Defining a living waterway
the seasons decorate its rock walls,
as an escape route with no escape
with mini rapids and tiny waterfalls.
And a Great Blue Heron skims along,
all stretched out and sleek
searching, searching
for the secrets of Buffalo Creek.

I always enjoy your poetry, Dor. And guess what? We have a Buffalo Creek right here in my neck of the woods too and it’s as pretty as yours.

Thanks Cindy. Sometimes the poetry is the only way to say it. But Imagine that! Now we have creeks in common too! 🙂

This looks a lot like the creek that bounded my grandmother’s farm in North Alabama. My cousins and I had fun fishing and wading and catching crawdads and mussels. But the aunts wouldn’t let us go near the water in the “Dog Days” of summer. Now I realize that it was the fear of polio. Ted

Funny how waterways bring back fond memories. And I do recall my Mom’s fear of polio but it was supposed to be virulent at public swimming pools.

It’s surely a happy looking creek except when it floods.
