I am sitting by a wide-open window now. I thought it would be a sun filled, air warmed day. The breeze is calculated to delight but still casting a little chill. I should close the window but never mind. It is springtime. Isn’t it?
The Sunshine Season
Yesterday I noticed the beautiful Lungwort/Pulmonaria is blooming once again in my front yard. A friend came by and said, “I love that plant,” so I gave her a cutting. I didn’t realize that Pulmonaria should be divided every few years anyway or it gets leggy. The sunshine reminds me to read up again on gardening.
Company is coming. The house is tidy and the redbuds are beginning to show their pastel pinks. Virginia redbuds form corridors of beauty all over our county. Maybe the corridors will be in full bloom by the time my friend arrives on Monday. What a greeting she will have!
I pruned the crepe myrtle yesterday. I tried to follow the advice of a fellow blogger on how not to scalp the poor thing. Actually, my crepe myrtle is taller than I am, so I managed to do some circumspect pruning among the lower branches.
I still have to put the umbrella back on the deck and tie the cushions to the wrought iron chairs and chaise. My friend will want to read out there.
I am moving winter woolens aside in favor of linen. Those suede boots look big and cumbersome and useless now. Bring in the sandals.
How quickly I forget comforters and gloves, scarves and hats, hot chocolate and cozy fires.
For now, for this brief moment in time, only the sunshine is the light of my life and I am getting ready.
So glad the snow has finally melted and you are seeing the beautiful spring flowers!

Of course, you are farther south than we are, so naturally your blooming is ahead of ours. Not much color in our world yet, so I really enjoyed looking at your beautiful photos today. Thinking (and wishing) Spring right along with you! Have a wonderful time with your visiting company.

Absolutely! Me too! Fleece has lost it’s attraction and those beautiful prints beckon.

Lovely. I don’t grow pulmonaria and judging by your photo, I think I might just start doing so. I so hope the redbuds are in full glory for when your friend comes on Monday. What a cheerful greeting she will have. And I’m sure you did a good job pruning the crape (crepe) myrtle. (That thing is spelled various ways and I’m still not sure which is the right way!)

The redbuds are not quite that colorful yet but it will only be a few more days! Then I will not be able to resist taking picture after picture. I hope your flowers start to pop soon too. 🙂

An explosion of color from any source is what we’re after. Enough of Snow White.

I think you will love the Pulmonaria too! It’s easy care and makes a dramatic early spring statement. Thanks for the lovely comment… I hope you are right about the crape/crepe myrtle pruning being a success. We’ll see. 🙂

Lovely photograph and don’t you just love all that yardwork? I don’t know – sometimes it’s not all that much fun, but in the end I’m happy to have it finished.

Wow, you are definitely ahead of us, but I did go for a power walk today without a jacket. It felt wonderful to get some fresh air and exercise.

Aw, Dor, what a nice post! I was right there sitting along side of you in the sunshine. Your pulmonaria is beautiful; it is a great spring bloomer, the leaf texture is extra-special, plus it grows in the shade! Is the the picture of the redbuds in your yard? It’s gorgeous!

Nice to hear about your Cape Myrtles; we still don’t know whether they survived this terrible winter; they’re all still brown and gaunt. How great for you to already be in the midst of spring.

The blossoms on the trees are beautiful. It will still be a little while before the trees blossom here.

The yardwork is a bit daunting and this year I seem to be allergic to all the pollens…. I will happy to have it finished too my friend. 🙂

Power walking in the fresh air sounds wonderful but I can hardly power myself out of the chair nowadays. Pollen allergies making me drag around. 😦 Happy spring! 🙂

The redbud trees dress the place up. I always think of them as springtime jewelry and everything takes on a lovely glow. One of these days I hope you will come to see it.

Hello Eliza and thanks for you lovely comment. Yes, you are right, it’s so nice the pulmonaria grows in a shady part of my garden. The redbuds are in my yard too but the photo is from last year. They are beginning to bloom again this year and just on the cusp of looking their brightest. They should be perfect like in the photo by the time my friend arrives on Monday.

A bleak winter for sure and maybe that’s why the emerging color is so very welcome. The crepe myrtle isn’t blooming yet here either but the redbuds are ready to make a big display and some of the fruit trees are in full flower.

We had a lovely day, too, and hope to work in the garden tomorrow. I have new flowers to plant and put in pots. The redbuds are in full force here, very colorful intermingled with the multitude of Bradford Pear trees. The cherry trees are blooming, too. They are a favorite of mine. Enjoy your time with your friend!

I hope I don’t jinx myself by saying this, but my allergies are usually not too bad until August/September when all the weeds go to seed. I may suffer earlier this year though because they say that the long and extremely cold winter that we had will actually make the pollen worse :(. Feel better my friend!

It got down to 27 degrees here last night and like you, I was afraid for the redbud blossoms. They survived and are doing well. I do love them and it’s so nice they are in full bloom while my friend Janet is visiting from Arizona.
