That morning I saw a lone deer
standing statuesque
and gazing at a field of snow.
I glanced away to other mundane chores,
looked back and back again
to find her still unmoving,
shocked and staring.
“Where is that grassy field I knew just yesterday?”Β
“What is this sea of white?”
And as I ate a quiet breakfast and sipped my teaΒ
I realized hunger was the poor deer’s plight,
for there she stood shocked and wondering
what to do or where to be
until resigned she turned and walked back
into the forest.
Aw, I hope she found shelter. Beautiful photo, Dor.

Aw…. don’t worry…she’ll be back to munch on your “fill in name of shrub” soon!

Poor baby right, makes one want to leave something out for her – but then I know she’d become a regular on all plants, shrubs and trees. Hmm, better for the forest to take care of her. Love your photographs Dorann.

There was a little melt off the day after and then more yesterday, so they are back in business! π

My heart went out to that stunned deer who simply didn’t understand why nature deceived her. Thank goodness the snow is melted away now and the deer are back in full force. π

I gave it my best shot Cindy but he stayed firm. Fortunately we had a big melt down so the deer are happy again. π

Phew! That’s a relief. Last weekend I was driving on a windy backroad,, and the roads were snow covered and very slippery so I was going really slow. That turned out to be a good thing because 4 deer decided to cross the road in front of me. They were sooo beautiful!!

I’m so glad you agree with me that deer are beautiful. They seem such innocent gentle spirits.

That second photo of the landscape is just beautiful — sets the tone for the whole poem! Did you take that?

Thanks for noticing the frigid landscape photo Melissa! ‘Tis the view from my kitchen window and it has been changing a lot lately. Erratic weather has me and the wildlife thoroughly confused.

Yup – ’tis part of the spectacular view from my kitchen window. I feel so lucky to see the changes in the Blue Ridge Mountains every day, albeit from a good distance. The header on my blog is of the view and I try to change it with the seasons.
