YES. NO. MAYBE?
Eat margarine – not butter.
Eat butter – not margarine.
Coffee is bad for you.
Coffee is good for you.
Eggs have too much cholesterol.
Eggs are whole foods with vital nutrients.
Eat lots of carbs.
Eliminate carbs.
When you get to be as old as I am (notice I avoid revealing my exact age), you have lived through a complicated history of pros and cons for healthy eating. I have bought into them all, and only hoping that smoking will come back in favor soon!

Oh Oh, am I going to have to give you the smoking lecture young lady?? LOL Regarding food, I’m so sick of them changing their minds with all their stupid studies that I just eat what I like (in moderation of course :)).

It is a continually evolving mystery, isn’t it?

No lecture required Cindy! I haven’t smoked since 1998! Still, every once in a while I think of my long lost friends (the little warm sticks that used to give me strength and kept me slim). Someone said the countries where smoking is banned have more mental disorders. Hmmmmmmmm! I like your attitude though…. “eat what I like” in moderation. If only I could stick to the moderation part. 🙂

Yeah, I lived through all that too. I don’t even listen to them anymore except for chocolate and wine which are both in vogue right now. Drink and eat up quick before they make you die.

I’ll stick with what my Grandmother always used to say “everything in moderation”. Good advice (not always taken, mind you but good none the less).

Great post! I’ve also often wondered why the experts can’t definitively decide which foods are good (or bad) for us.

If you can get enough data on your side, you can probably prove just about anything. Wouldn’t it be nice to rely on hard and fast proven results? Bottom line, we are smart, we know what’s best for us and we make the choices.

I totally agree with you, alas I think you’re going to have to give up on smoking 🙂

You are so right about knowing instinctively what’s best for us and then making the choices. I just wish I had trusted guides along the way. 🙂

Guess I already did give up on smoking, but if they found positive reasons for smoking to stay healthy and slim, hmmmmmmm! 🙂

Julia Child lived into her nineties, and she was quite sharp in her old age. If she says butter and cream, then that’s good enough for me. Of course, she was a hard worker and happily married, too. They are likely factors as well. Still, butter and cream sound good!

I’m with Julia on the butter and cream choices. How can anything so delicious be bad for you? 🙂

I’m with you! Everything that used to excite or calm me is off limits now! It’s either too risky, fattening or bad for you in one way or another! Not fair!

Yep – “fattening or bad for you” defines the problem. Thanks for visiting my blog. 🙂
