I planted snap dragons in early spring,
some in a bed, but not really all.
I reserved some for against a wall.
And waiting to see what would thrive,
some things lived and others died.
The dragons were the first to fall
except for those against the wall.
They lived on and on and on,
right through Thanksgiving
and beyond.
Wow, hardy critters.

I’ve never really noticed snapdragons in the fall/early winter. Just a couple weeks ago, they planted them in our neighborhood!

While at the shore near Portsmouth NH I found a Beautiful Tree full of Red Ripe Fruit and Flowering bushes right beside the sea and today I worked my butt off clearing lots of dead wood from Lilacs and a Yew boy am I sore but it will look beautiful come spring 🙂

Wowwwww, you still have flowers in bloom?!? They’re so beautiful, and I would have given anything to see them today instead of the whiteouts I drove though :).

I do love to see things that survive unexpected harsh weather and the little yellow snapdragons make me smile. I know you hard work will pay off in the spring. Lilacs are heavenly!

I was too lazy and it was too cold to go out and snap pics of the barren landscape to contrast with those happy yellow snapdragons! Amazing.

I just read snap dragons are “cool weather plants” that can sometimes be perennial and sometimes annual, depending on the climate zone and where they are planted. At our house, this little fella stands alone with its summery show and we have had frosty nights and frigid days and all the mums have died back. Getting down to 20 degrees tonight they say, so we shall see how the magic dragon fares. I always thought snapdragons were summer flowers. Planting in the fall? Wow!

We have had killing frosts too!
Like that Red Tree I cant wait till spring to capture it in full bloom with Hummingbirds flocking to it 🙂 I have an Apple Tree here and I keep it solely for the Hummingbirds
and Spring Flowers
Love my lilacs they are so old as soon as they are done flowering I will cut them them half way back and take a bunch of new shoots and start a border on top drive so it can smell like heaven here with the slightest breeze 🙂

🙂 It was in the 40’s but I had a burst of energy I will pay for for days to come I must learn to pace myself but I started a fire and got rid of all the old stuff. I keep one brush pile for my critters to winter under just don’t need a 3 acre brush pile 🙂 I also cut boughs off evergreens for two containers in town as I am in the garden club I even found Red berries when no one else could

I love snapdragons. Mine died back in the heat of the summer, but came back out when the temps dropped. It was 82 today so we are having an extremely warm December. Hard to get into the Christmas spirit in this heat. 🙂

Wow! 80’s in December – no wonder the snapdragons were wilting. They seem awfully hardy though and I think I love them too.
